Rain last night. Not a cloud in the sky now. The bike calls to me. I must answer.

I saw 28 degrees down here yesterday. Even for here, that's gotta be a record for October. Making up for that craptastic spring, I guess.

5C here in the Peg, though with day time highs are still close to 20, your quite right, much nicer than the spring weather.

I always figure any riding from the first of October until April thirtieth is a bonus.
I have the advantage of commuting on the bike every day. Over the last few weeks the worst problem is the early morning/late afternoon sun in the eyes. Of course the zero degree mornings and down pouring afternoons like today aren't so much fun either...

Today's ride...

So I was sitting there this morning looking outside at the clouds thinking it was going to rain...then the sun came out Time to go for a ride I thought

I headed out with the plan to try and get to an old mine site that I have had on my list for quite some time. I stopped to take some shots of the old Big Thunder Ski Jump and was eye balled by security there. Upon arriving at the Mine site, I was greeted by No Trespassing signs...as usual, so I continued on there's a new road cut in the last couple of years out behind Stanley, so I decided to go check it out. I could see from Google Earth that it was for logging and that it nearly ran over an old mine that I had marked on the map. I headed up the road and rode every single branch off of it. One took me up to a high point and I could see the surrounding area, Candy Mtn, Knob hill and Rabbit Mtn. With the fall colours in full swing, it was an amazing sight!

I then stopped to check out where I thought the mine was. I walked into the bush and pretty much into the trench that they dug many years ago while following a mineral trail. There wasn't much left there, I suspect most of it got ploughed over when the road went and even though I hiked around the area, I couldn't find anything else.

Running some nasty roads

Saw lots of these guys today...he was showing off to a female

Remains of the Stewardson Mine

I then headed out of the area and up the highway heading towards the junction to Hymers. I turned up the old Badger Mtn road where I had seen a filled in shaft, building and car years before. I found a collapsed building in the bush but no car and no shaft. Someone had cleaned up the area and it was hard to even tell they had been there at all. At that point I noticed a 4 wheeler trail heading north in the bush and curiousity got the best of me. I'm not happy with the tires on the KLR off-road, so I new I was in for a fight of a ride! Heading up hill, I could see on the GPS map that the trail was heading for the high point of the area! I finally broke out of the bush to a flat bedrock summit, at which point I figured the trail ended. The bike was running pretty hot at this point, so I started walking around checking out the area and ended up finding another 4 wheeler trail that lead down from the high point to the east. Hiking along the trail for about 800 meters, I noticed some flagging tape marking a faint trail into the bush and followed it. I ran straight into a huge Mine Adit and shaft I then realized that once again, I had no light to peer into it I used the camera flash to get me in about 30' to where the ceiling had caved in but I could see that the adit went further on.

After taking some photos, I hiked back to the bike and back down the trail to the highway, where I headed for the Co-op for a Gatorade! It was late by then and time to cut cross country for home. At Hymers, I ran into Old Fart at Play, who was, well...at Play After parting ways, I backroaded it across to hwy 11 and then down 102 to Kaministiqua where I hit the backroads again home. Along the way, I stopped to take photos of a couple of old houses.

It was a great day and saw a lot of stuff...shame this weather won't last!

Looks like an awesome day Rob! Not much adventuring around here. Took the RZ out for a burn. It's so flat here, the only curves and hills are at the hi way overpasses; luckily for me I am only a few minutes away from 3 of them, so there is a little variety.... Lol

Good stuff Rob! I went out for a bit of a ride, and missed both you and OFAP.

On the brighter side of things, I never realized how strong I have become, until I realized I was holding the back of the BMW in the air, but had forgotten to put down the center stand!

See all the good stuff all these journeys with you guys have done for me!

another Bwokentoof video

Several of you may have already seen this on Facebook, but just in case you haven't, here is a lovely piece of video put together by Bwokentoof - documenting part of the ride he and Michelle did this summer...along with an interview of that wild'n'cwazy guy...

Great ride report Rob! As soon as I read "high point" the jealousy began to burble inside of me! BTW - I wonder if the CBR150R could have made the water crossing?

Thanks for the link Lee!! Another excellently shot video with a moving audio soundtrack. And good ride report as well. Makes me realize just how much of the Deer Trail I missed the last time riding through there.
