My system differs.
Ride bike to Tim Horton's to warm old oil.
Ride home.
Hob nob with neighbour's hot daughter over coffee while bike cools.
Slide oil pan under bike.
Sip coffee.
Admire neighbour's daughter's ass sets.
Remove dip stick.
Place left foot on wrench to apply enough torque to get the aforementioned oil plug from drain hole.
Sip coffee.
Comment on weather.
Remove filter. Allow filter to fall into oil pan.
Allow bike to "bleed".
Sip coffee.
Replace drain plug.
Replace filter, after pouring a little new oil into it.
Add 3 litres of yummy Mobil 1.
Spark up and check for leaks.
Test ride, with neighbour's hot daughter hanging on like a three toed sloth on a windy day.
That's it.
I think I should make an instructional video.....

Lyle - next time you change your oil - please give me a call. I may need to ride the 500kms to Kenora to "observe" how you do it. Hey - and I've never considered smoking a big fatty (re: sparking up) while changing the oil - but good on ya. I may consider it next time. It should keep me nice and relaxed. Thanks for the tip!

Welcome to my world every day. I'll never understand how high priced engineers can sleep nights turning out the crappy designs that make routine maintenance such a pain in the butt.

Sometimes customers ask about my choice of motorcycles or what I look for in a machine. Ease of maintenance is high on the list.

Of course weird, oddball, very rare or just plain ass goofy rank right up there as well...

At very least, an oil change should not require the removal of body plastic. Air filters should be "right there", and batteries should be easy to get at. If you can't at least deal with these three items, you should be driving a Buick.
In my wife's new Subaru, the oil filter is ON TOP of the engine....the drain plug? I haven't gotten anywhere near looking for that yet. I suspect it's on the bottom somewhere...

The only riding about that I've done lately is in this

The fall colors look great from above.

And I did get out on the DR for a bit

It's sure wet in the bush with all the rain

Season is pretty much done eh? Couple short rides maybe here & there, but the good touring is over. This will melt & we might see some +10'C still, but when the snow arrives.....it's a sign for sure.

Surprised the Moab chatter hasn't appeared yet. Maybe not going this year? The "pull" to head south might get stronger now eh?

Outside my door right now...

Someplace south, sounds nice but it would be a last minute thing for me and wouldn't happen until at least December...
