Ya, Sudbury got to -37C and -50C windchill this morning.

Feck that shit. I didn't take any time off over the holidays. I'm taking today off. Time to stay inside and play with my appliances.

Ha..ha... Getting caught up on e-mails and other assorted things. Can't believe the stuff that was waiting for me - for when I got back.

I just read this on Motorcyclist Online. I'm sure many will be able to related to their first mini bike as a kid.

Interesting read Mike.

My riding beginnings predated those little bikes. I started on a early 60s Honde C100 (50cc step through). I beleave I was 9 at the time. That was soon followed be my brothers Honda S90 at 11 years old. when I turned 15 my dad bought me a 1968 (i think) Suzuki 80 two stroke bike. At that time you could get a bike learners at 15 1/2. That summer was the beginning of my independance and I have owned some form of motorcycle ever since.

I jumped straight from that 80cc bike to a Kawsaki H2 500cc triple. That was the beginning of my stupid period. Only street motorcycle accident of my life was on that bike and there was no one else involved. Just a misjudged shift change in a curve on a dew moist street at 80 miles per hour. I still clearly remember the road rash i got that day.

I have the fondest memory of the Honda S90. First clutched bike I rode. Like that memory so much I bought one to restore. That is this winters project. Hoping it will be done for early summer. Finding a few parts may be a challange.

Here are some photos of bikes and beaches....

This is the public access to the beach at the resort we stayed at.

Here is a photo of part of the beach near our resort. The sand was very fine and silky. Not the kind of beach we prefer - but it was great nonetheless....

And here is the Ariel. The owner is my friend's brother - and he only knows a few words of English. My friend said that it's a 1950s model (1957?). Might be a Red Hunter 500. Anyone have any idea?

And here I am standing behind it.

I believe I have a movie of me sitting on it. I had a hard time finding the kickstand to prop the bike back up. The owner is a mechanic (mecanico). He needs some suspension for it - and with his brother as his translator - explained that the only way to get such parts in Cuba is to pilfer them from scrapped bikes. Or make the parts.

These scooters were popular among the resorts on Cayo Coco. I believe they are Sym Jet 4R models. And I believe the one to the left is a MZ of some sort. I was on the double-decker bus riding to Pilar Beach when I snapped this photo.

And here is a different kind of bike. Saw quite a few of them on the streets of Moron. Here is Diane with our friend Oswaldo.

Shortly after the above photo was taken - we saw what looked to be a Hermit Crab walking along the streets of Moron.....

Here is a shot of Pilar Beach with Diane coming out of the water doing her best Ursula Andress impression.... The beach was really spectacular. There are a few hotels going up about 1 to 2 kms east of the beach. It would be great to stay at those places and walk to this place each day.

And here was our evening destination virtually every night of our 2 week stay. The cigar bar. It was virtually empty because it was a bit of a walk from the main part of the resort. But each night a few people would chance it.

And here is Diane and I celebrating Christmas.....

Those beaches are spectacular and looks like you almost had it to yourself. We took a catamaran cruise to a couple of outlying islands and the beach there was like walking through flour.

Yes - just like flour. We arrived at around 11AM (we took the first bus of the day) which explains why it's relatively empty. Later in the day it really filled up. It's only a $5 bus ride to Pilar beach but it's well worth it.

The resorts are normally a considerable distance from Pilar Beach. The ones going up close by will have one of the world's best beaches within walking distance.
