Staying busy while waiting for our bike documents. One of the Argentina guys has an ancient high mile KLR 600. They have been pull starting it everyday. He says its really hard to get going in the morning so we are doing some trouble shooting

Checked for tight valves. In spec. Next ignition & carburetor

Karri, what about the carker, or what ever it's called. I remember Pifflemaster doing a mod to help it start easier. Brian....

It's most likely carb related if this is a new symptom, however on mine, -17 C starts were impossible until I took about 30 thou off the KACR pin (Kawasaki Automatic Compression Release).

Northern Riders SIGN IN!

Further investigation showed a very weak spark. I gapped the plug very small & it did start up, blubbering & wouldn't idle. We shut the fuel tap off and it cleared, then afterwards with a different plug it settled into a smooth idle. We re gapped the plug correctly, and I think after unplugging the coil connectors several times, it may have cleaned the connection.
I am not exactly what happened but by monkeying around with the gap & the wires , it cleared up !
We got rained out so we stopped working on the bike, and are viewing a presentation of Dylan's videos.

All we can do is slurp on Inca Kola and wait.

We headed out down through the market areas & down to the street with all the bike shops.

Shopping for a tire, as his has a bad tumor

After lunch the sun is out. Some camp stove soldering for the temp sender wire, and we should have the KLR back together.

Love the photos and report Karri! Thanks for taking the time to do it. Anytime you have wifi and can throw us a bone - it'd be greatly appreciated!

An update on the ancient KLR 600. We were pretty happy with the repairs, turn signal was next on the list. Probably the relay. We tried starting the bike , and wtf ? No spark. No turn signals either. Well it turns out this guy had a spare CDI unit, he never told anyone. We put that on and it fired right up. He's gone to the bike shop for the relay now. We are heading up to the Aduana to see about are CIT documents. Hopefully today is the day.

Kinda jealous of those who are getting out of this god forsaken snowball of a country for a brief respite. We leave in 3 weeks but it cannot come fast enough for me.

Took a picture today, after shoveling for another 5 hrs, and compared it with a few short weeks ago.

House the first week of December

Same views today

Used to have 5 of these guys on a regular basis. Now we get these 2 and that is it. These 2 look pretty healthy but they are town deer and have an easier go at it with plowed streets and some folks intentionally feeding them. In the wild it has gotta be a tough year on the animals

Trying to get the seeds out of the bird feeder

It's a beautiful walk every day for a week up to the SONAT Aduana offices. Today we scored! The officials stamped the papers, we signed them & they have given us 15 days to exit both bikes out of Peru . The TVIP is 3 months, these bikes have been here for almost 7 months.

It was a pretty nice walk back.
