Southern Comfort

Fellow Riders:

I have four months to travel as far south as I care to. This ride report began last weekend at Camp Sheideck, partying with the Mayor (Richard Cabesa), AceRph, Kbasa, Slaniac, ARRRGGGHHHNut and a very notorious bunch of other ADVriders. BTW...Kbasa was the last man standing....

Having lived south of the border for over a year, it will be a welcome relief for me to be south of the border again for a few months.....

I hope you'll stay tuned.........

Route planned is to ferry from Panama to Columbia, East to Venezuela, and south to Chile to have the bike and rider shipped back to Los Angeles......

This ride is solo......

This is the plan.......

Good to see you this last weekend.

Good luck Neil. Ride safe.

Left Ventura County early December 5th and stopped my first night in Eloy, Arizona (South of Tucson) at a Motel 6.

Crossed the border at Nogales and onto Mex 15.

Rest stop north of Hermosillo.

With an incredible shrine.

Spent the night in Hermosillo and was wide awake at 3:00 AM.......waiting for the Sun and more riding time

The next night was spent at Los Mochis, again up early to ride. It was the first feeling of tropical warmth and humidity. Very pretty south of Los Mochis.

Next stop is Mazatlan

...Or so I thought. I stopped for breakfast around 11:00 am approx. 150 km North of Mazatlan.

About $3.00 US

After Lunch I continued South to turn-off for Playa Cauta, about 90 km north of Mazatlan....My first view of the Pacific.

I got into Mazatlan around 2:00 pm yesterday (Friday, December 8th) and after an hour of riding the city, I decided to push south to San Blas.

The tropical warmth for riding in December was GREAT!!!!

At this stop along Mex 15 South of Mazatlan, I could see fishermen in a skif.

A very nice two-lane road, enroute to San Blas

But By now, It's almost 4:00 and another 90 km to San Blas, so I booked it South and came across heavy traffic (mostly semi's)

By 5:30 pm, I was still 60 km away from San Blas. By 6:30, It was completely dark and I was still 40 km from my destination for the night. It was pitch black dark by 7:30 when I came across a roadside town. I stopped for a Coke.

I know....not wise to ride Mexican roads at night.....

Around 8:00 PM, I arrived at San Blas and passed this beautiful restaurant.

I continued down to the water front, turned a corner and saw the biggest outdoor party ever

I had been riding for 12 hours and was hammered, had two beers, dinner and watched the party from my Al fresca dining table for the next 2 hours.

I found a Hotel and crashed, woke up this morning to view the surroundings from my $20 USD a night Hotel.

My balcony which is nearly impossible to get to

I was out the door by 7:00 am to check out the city of San Blas.

San Blas is located between Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta.....I'll get a map post in the next few days.

UNBELIEVABLE Fish market on the streets outside the main mercado.
