Electricssss

That looks awsome - but i guess i'll have to pay some wizard to get that to happen on my 660. I have NO clue how to handle wirering and electronics.
:-) Guess i'll just let the battery run flat !

XT660R resources

Hi there, I'm a new member of Adv, but have been following for a couple of years. I am currently based in the UK and acquired a 2007 XT660R with some decent extras recently. Since then I have battled to find "active" resources on these models on the web / forums. I have visited the official XT660.com site but not very impressive. I've been on "Off-the-road" but products and mods quite exclusive and premium.
Any hints / pointers will be appreciated.
Is anyone aware of any other meeting places for XT owners?
Thanks
Willie

Then you haven't looked close enough, you will not find anything better. Register on the forum and get all the info and help you need on the model. Honestly.

XT660 forum

+1 on XT660.com. If they don't know the answer to any XT660 issue then NOBODY does. I went for day ride with the technical guy (Kev) in Brisbane last year. Top guy, very knowledgable and modest. The xt660 forum is one of the few forums I have been on in the last 10 years where common sense and maturity reigns supreme (as opposed to ego, in-fighting etc).

I saw this bike on the XT660 forum and I just had to say this... America is really missing out with Yamaha choosing not to import the XTR, XTX, and XTZ to the the country. It would be their biggest volume market, and they're choosing not to, I finding baffling. I recently moved to Australia from the US, and bought one just because. I wish the North America would get them so the aftermarket parts segment would multiply. If I was back in the US, I could think of NO BETTER commuter bike than the Tenere. It's leaps and bounds smoother than a DR or KLR, has a very respectable service interval, and even though it's fuel injected it's a very simple bike.

So....this isn't my bike, hopefully the fella from XT660 doesn't mind me posting it!

Windscreen link

Well... I did find the windscreen on the page: http://www.hyderacing.com/store/adve...yamaha/660.htm but without a picture.
I gave them a call - very helpful, but he had never seen a picture of it and since he hasn´t gotten back to me on email I assume that he never found one either...
Now, rechecking the website - they have removed the windscreen (I should get payed for keeping them up-to-date on their own material )

Any recommendations for windscreens?

Cheers...

I am 5'11" tall and really love my Givi. However, I had the flip-top shaved off to remove the turbulance. What I am left with is a screen that removes the wind from my chest without any other consequences.

Possible fuel surge problem

Having just recently bought the bike - a 2008 XT660 - have been experiencing problems with holding a constant rev.range!
The bike seems to be hunting when sitting at a constant pace or coming off the throttle...

- after the first refuelling (with premium) it seemed a bit better but the problem is still present
- spark plug seems a bit light/grey... maybe a problem with it running too lean?

Bright ideas or help is appreciated...

Cheers...

Get yourself over to www.xt660.com and get hours of interesting and useful reading. The surging issue has been bashed to death (several times). All XT660's will surge a little due to many things....big single with too-lean-from-factory FI, worn rear cush drive (yours should be OK unless high K's), chain badly adjusted etc etc. Check out the above website, in my 18 years back on bikes it's the most informative and ego-free, attitude-free site I've been a member of. And, big bonus, the site's tech guru lives in Brisbane. I have a 2007 XT660R, live in NZ, ride the Snowies once a year. Happy reading.

I had a similar problem at first when i had mine. You can very easily adjust the mixture through the computer on the dash. Check out xt660.com for the exact procedure as my memory has faded a little, but it goes something like holding the 2 buttons down together for a few seconds to get to the diagnostics page, then cycle until you get to the cylinder page and adjust the values as required. There is a full explanation on xt660.com, and the whole thing takes no more than one minute to do, and you can just keep going until you get it right. My bike was running very lean when I got it, so i bumped it up a bit and it made a big difference.
