thanks for your write up. it was easy to follow and your advice of using the oven while the spouse is away is priceless.

my impeller looks shaved down. 18k miles. the shaft and seal appear ok.

Ouch! That doesn't look right. I have never seen that on anybody else'e rebuild.
Was there any debris in the impeller housing?

no debris other than the casting sediments

this came from superduke R. another owner told me his looked the same after his WP broke and dealer replaced it under warranty.

is it possible to have installed the 09 shaft? the 09 shaft is longer and requires a different impeller and cover. I will run out to the shop and measure the two for verification... back in a sec...

one way is if the inner bearing was not pressed in all the way, but then the large inner clip would not of been able to engage the cover.... impeller could have been loose on the shaft? or not seated all the way down?

IIRC a few folks had problems with loose impellers on the early bikes and had similar ground-down impeller blades.

that is the current model shaft 34.65mm was my measurement on the shaft that I pulled out of the box that is supposed to be for a 09.

The impeller that you have pictured appears to be a "early" version.. which is weird if its running a 34.65 shaft. but then that might explain why the impeller is showing wear.
