I'm running Symtec grip heaters, wired into the switched accessory connector in the wiring bundle behind the headlight. This is the 4th bike that I've had the Symtecs on.

Can't beat the symetics or the dual stars (same actual product in different packaging I think). I got my last couple pairs from casporttouring and they had them to me in ~4 days (I'm on the east coast). Great service

Put Oxford Heaterz full replacement grips on the wife's DR...lotsa heat, and comes with a heattroller, and LED "ON" light. Google It, and you'll find them. Super easy to wire up...only negative is out of the box they wire directly to the battery, so you can leave them on after the bike is off. I've been told a simple Relay can fix this, but I am electrically challenged...we just look for the light before we leave the bike.

if you can find the switched wire referred to above, go get an automotive accessory relay (autozone, advance, aerostich) for aux lights etc

wire like this, connecting the grips or if you have one the controller for the grips, where I had the outlet drawn.

when the switched power goes off (with the key) power to the relay coil is removed, the contacts fail open which removes power to the aux load.

Use the suggested fuse and wire per the manufacturer, the switched side already is fused and can be as small as 18 AWG.

I also have the symtecs wired into the connector by the headlight. They work ok, but I think if I would have put some electrical tape between the elements and the bars (aluminum pro-tapers) I would get a lot more of the heat.
One problem I had was in my high traffic commute where I'd have to play the break and clutch levers alot the heat would jump out of my fingers. I just purchased a set of ProGrip lever covers

and am hoping for good results. The website shows them only for the brake lever, but mine came in a pair and were like $3. They seem like they'll help alot, but it hasn't been very cold since I put them on my bike a couple days ago... only wet.
I figured out that once the ends of my fingers get cold, they don't warm up on the grips since the tips aren't in contact.

Can the DR handle heated grips and a vest? With lights, or without? TIA.
