It might, just try it. That's how mine was when I got it, it had no cat code plug.

Goodmorning from hottest Greece.
I saw before many days that thread, and i put the jumber like Steptoe's pic (30-87a).

In Greece we have high temperatures the summer. Before some days we have 40C (104F) and my '00 R1150GS it pinging again and again. Big problem to the motor.

Before 1 year I purchace the PowerFRK module and when install it, i saw the pinging it's gone
After that i try to learn some more things for that module, and i learn cos the module make the mixture richer. This is the answer for the pings. Rich mixture because the gas in Greece is so pour in octane (and it cost now over the 1,5/l )

The module powerFRK increases the fuel consumption and for that, i don't install it all the time. (I install it only for a quick travel at the roads with many turns )

Now I install the jumber and the pinging in hottest Greece is gone. Not completely, but it's gone and the bike shows stronger at the low and middle rpm's!
The jumber work perfectly!
In the next days i will try to combine the jumber with powerfrk and i tell you the results.

PS: The jumber (alone) increases the fuell consuption? (I don't have yet any feedback for that)

I apologies for my bad english

Steptoe...you are the best!!!

Installed the Autolite plugs, surging & pinging still there, though light.

Provide your shipping details and I'll send my 3922s to you. They are slightly used (about 3-4 hours) but still have many miles of life remaining.

Final Pinging Update

Final Pinging Update for my fix

Installed a Techlusion gizmo...much better...fixed about 95%. The Techlusion guy said I could get my $ back if it didn't completely eliminate the ping but its so much better I'm keeping in installed.
Came home from work this afternoon in about 110 deg temp...was still able to get some slight ping up around 5-6k in 4th at WOT. But with that I'm calling it good enough. Guess there was a
good reason for BMW to develop the 1200.

These are the things I tried:
1) Techron...many bottles worth
2) Seafoam
3) Water torture
4) Cam Chain Tensioner upgrade (fixed the marbles in a can)
5) valve adj
6) TBS
7) Motronic jumper
8) 100 octane...it loved this stuff but at $7.50/gal somewhat impractical.
9) Techlusion gizmo (showed the most improvement)
10) Autolite 3922 plugs

The only thing that had any real ping reducing effect was the Techlusion unit.

Good luck to others with similar issues.

just bought an 02 1150 GSA and the first hot day I went for a run it pinged like a bastard, particularly rolling on at around 130kmh.Pulled out the yellow cat code plug, stuck in the Steptoe jumper as per pic, no more "breaking Glass" noises anywhere and a better running bike to boot.As has been said before, "Thanks Steptoe."

Thank you my friend for your kindness, but I do not trust to put this kind of used parts on my motorcycle. You cannot give me a proof that only work a few hours and I can not trust them for the next 20K. I always prefer new.
Thanks again!

Sorry if this has been noted earlier but I wanted to give some knowledge without reading the whole thread.

We had four 1150 adventures all dual plug bikes (bmw club) that developed pinging One of the guys worked out that the coil pack that develops the charge to the second set of plugs was generating enough power to give a spark if it was manually inspected but when checked with proper equipment it wasnt generating any where near the correct number of volts to operate properly. When replaced the pinging disappeared and engine noticably smoother.

This wasnt picked up by two different mechanics. They corrected the problem when told what to look for. Hope this helps.

cheers

David
