That would be 30 and 87a. Light Brown.

The jumper wire in his picture above is different that the yellow code plug in his other pictures.

(Images below were posted by Steptoe)

Maybe ask him about it?

In case you do not see it - there are 8 possible ways to connect the common pin 30, with the three other pins.

Code:
   1) 30 --
   2) 30 86
   3) 30 87
   4) 30 86 87
   5) 30 87a
   6) 30 86 87a
   7) 30 87 87a
   8) 30 86 87 87a
One of the 8 possible combinations isn't listed in the chart above.

A connection between pins 30, 86, and 87a

It is listed by BMW as 'Special Plug', and is part number 71 60 7 659 547

Great information,
Having a R1100GS which used Motronic 2.2,
What combination can I use so that I can run regular Unleaded fuel, (low octain) to minimise pinging?, Non CAT, I know the Motronic 2.4 uses a different CAT code plug, any Ideas with the 2.2,
cheers all.

No pinging at all and before it was a rattlecan. And this on high altitude winter gas. A little extra HP too, right in the midrange where we like it.
Please do not use the Rattlecan's name in vain. my gs sounds like a motumbo, and I've already done the new cam chain tensioner, Sea Foam, etc. etc. So I'm listening carefully.

IT'S IN THE PICTURE - do you want me to fly over and hold your hand while you try it.

Perhaps if it was a $50 part, you'd feel better about trying it .

Thats all i'm asking - "Try it"

How you guys managed to land on the moon i'll never know

THANKS Steptoe.

OOH, I sense some intercontinental tenseness here
Just a question to get my thoughts around this.......... My canadian 00 1150gs c/w cat conv. came with no cat plug (confirmed by dealer as correct) After reading many treads I understand that no cat plug = maximum richness. Would that not be the best situation for reducing pinging? I am going to try your jumper as soon as I can but meanwhile I am trying to understand the theory.
BTW: the jumper shown does not match the Yellow Cat code plug configuration pictures below it?????

thanks, I love playing long distance guessing games.

how about this: "i read somewhere on the internet that I could jumper two undocumented connectors to my $$$$ bike's $$$$$ computer. There's always a chance that a puff of smoke may emit from the bike which would cripple it, but what the heck. Oh, and the guy who suggested it isn't clear on the difference between a relay and a jumper. But his knuckle in a photo sure looks knowledable."

Makes me wonder if the product is mostly just a jumper too! Once I saw the steptoe mod worked so well I quit thinking about it. here is the info for those who wish to pursue it.

that is a map for a third party PROM, not for the factory PROM, in case that's not clear from the post.

+1

If you can't tell by the guys history that he knows what he's talking about or can't trust information given by the knowledgable guys on this forum, why ask questions? I'd be dead in the water if it weren't for guys like him.
