Back to report...

The Protaper bar install went pretty much as expected. I did sand out the inside of the enricher lever a bit, but when I tried to put the oxford heated grips back on, there was no way that was going to happen. Must be a smidgen smaller than stock.

I ended up filing down the knurling on the bar, not completly, but pretty much got rid of all the "peaks". Grips went on pretty smoothly after that.

They sure felt wider than stock, but about a thousand miles, I don't notice it a bit. The wrist angle is *much* better, and I'm much more comfortable on the bike now. Should've done it years ago!

Thanks for the comments and tips!

May be a cheap camera, but it's actually nicely composed. Nice photo!

I sent Truck6driver a PM on his NH, but in the meantime I'm checking to make sure I could ride one comfortably. I am 6'3" w' a 32-34 inseam. Will I be able to ride a NH comfortably? I have not had a chance to sit on one but the ones I have seen seem like the seat is a little on the low side.

Jocassee,

PM with my phone # sent.

I have a 32" inseam but I'm only 5'9" The hwy pegs are nice to have.

I'm 45 miles from the SC line but I don't know where you live so....

Come test ride it and see if it fits you. If it doesn't then you can look for something that does. I won't hurt my feelings.

Maybe someone has one closer to you that you can test ride. I know gas is expensive. Thats why I ride the bikes everyday and leave the car/truck at home.

Hey Guys,

Anyone around Greenville SC that has a CB650SC or CB700SC that inmate "jocassee" could sit on to check peg placement. He is interested in buying mine but is 4 hours away. If it won't fit him I don't him to waist 8 hour round trip just to look at my bike.

Thank guys

truckdriver I would put this request over on the nighthawk-forums; you would probably have better luck of finding someone in the general area.

Nicely done...glad you enjoy them. I had the carbs rebuilt and jetted with dyno jeys, rebuilt the forks and installed the progressive springs and put progressive shocks on the rear. AMAZING!!!...it handles, revs and brakes like a bike should. Looking forward to a long ride now but for now my commuting will do.

Thanks! If I'm not working on or riding a motorcycle I'm taking pictures with my mid 80's Seagull 120 film camera so I guess all the fiddling I've done with it have given me enough technique to make do with anything!

Thanks. Have some interest in her. So far just phone conversations. A gent about 2 hours away (Wallace NC) wants it. Would have bought it yesterday if I could have delivered it ( 4 gas money of course) but I will not have time off until Saturday sooooo. We shall see what the weekend brings.

If it takes too long I might loose out on the Dual Sport I want to buy. (Then I just might keep her).

Has any Nighthawk owners gone to the darkside, as in using a car tire for the rear wheel?

I have a car tire on the rear wheel of my Burgman 650 scooter, so far with 16,000 mi. on the rear tire, still have plenty of tread and stellar performance.

The only car tire I could find that might fit the rear wheel of a Nighthawk is a 155/80-17 BFGoodrich's Radial T/A tire. at $80 a tire.

Anyone else have expereience with the darksisde?

I remember pricing these some time ago, and just couldn't come to grips with the $$. Do you really think the rears are work it, and about how much did you spend?

I found them on amazon for a little cheaper than on bikebandit. They made a huge difference in comfort and handling. I rode the bike after the forks were rebuilt without the new shocks in the rear and it was horrible. Swapped the shocks and the difference was night & day...and I've only got 9k on the odometer. So, imho...yes well worth it. especially for the long hauls. Plus with the ease of adjusting with the supplied spanner wrench it makes handling an extra load very easy.

Does anyone have any pictures of their Nighthawk with different handlebars? I'm thinking of going with something with less rise and wondering what others have done. I have a 1995 750, I'll post up some pictures of the F-16 shield I put on last weekend, later.

Go with the ProTaper SE ATV High. I've had them on both my Nighthawks and love them. The Mids and Lows would work too, but the Highs are just right...IMO.
