That pretty much covers it. It's probably not a bad idea to check and maybe change the brake fluid, and check the front pads.

[QUOTE=Airvent;18348353]Hey everybody,
I'm a new owner of a 1985 Nighthawk S
QUOTE]

That thang's beautiful, man. I've got it's twin, and an '84 too. But yours is in a lot better cosmetic condition. Tell us about it- how you like that seat, how many miles, what you paid for it, if you're planning any mods for it. I put ProTaper low bars on mine and it made it a whole different bike (in a good way).

Haven't been able to ride it, still waiting for the battery to come in. The previous owner had it running for me off the battery in his car. It's got 19k on the clock and I bought it for $1500. I think I got a pretty good deal.

Ill be enjoying my Wednesday morning at DMV

I will certainly tell you how I feel about the seat when I log some miles. I do plan on getting some sort of luggage on it for the weekend trips to visit my girlfriend in college.

Never had one, but I really like the Nighthawk S.

I was in SF two years ago and saw a really nice one parked on one of those
famously hilly streets. Same color as this one.

I almost bought a Nighthawk S in that same colour scheme this winter, but decided to keep my 450 and save more money for a Ural purchase in a few years.

My twin Fiamm horns paid for themselves last night. Douche in a Lexus SUV attempted to merge into my lane with no signal. Blasted him with the horns and he jumped back into his lane with full shorts from the look of the maneuver. I was giggling in my helmet.

That is a great buy for that bike. Up 'till about a year ago they were to be had in that condition and mileage for about that same price, but they must be getting really popular because the price is going up on them. That bike would easily go for a thousand bucks more than what you paid, if it's in as good a shape as it appears to be. You did great!

Air, Check page 215 for saddle bag pics, I just picked up Motocentric Sport Saddlebags and a matching RollTail Bag(sits on top of seat, clips to saddlebags) for my 93 Nighthawk. They have tons of storage, they expand, rain covers, quick mounts, and they hold their shape. I drape them across seat and 4 clips secure them. I got $73 worth of groceries in all three last week. I looked at most everything before settling on the Motocentric, I use them for 60 mile work commute, well made, glad I got them. Best to you...~Rchstar

Its nice to finally have it on the road!

Cleaned the carbs, ground down the limiter caps - have them at 3 turns out
Changed the engine and drive oil
New air filter
New battery
Checked hardware, tire pressure, etc.

Unfortunately its not running as great as I'd like it to. It backfires a little on decel, cuts out at under 2k rpm and im netting 33mpg. Also, there's a nasty handshake at 50mph if I let go of the bars for a moment. I no longer let go of the bars

Ive already put a whole can of seafoam in and have run about 250 miles hoping it would clear out. No luck. Im going to pull the plugs and see what they tell me. Has anyone had issues with the pulse generator on these bikes?

Heres a few pictures

Going to look at an 84 Nighthawk S 750 (Cdn version) Tomorrow.
Price is right. 46000 orig. Kilometers...
Anything specific to look for on this model (other than the basic used bike stuff)?
cheers

Does anyone have a good instruction set / link on how to best change the fork oil in a NH250? To the best of my knowledge, ours has the original oil, and the front end dives pretty good on hard braking.. would this help correct that? What oil would do well in the forks?

This aspect of maintenance is new to me. I'm all for tackling it, just would like some data on how before I mess it up.
