We talked about it. Didn't look like there was an easy way out of there.

The water was cold....and deep too!

Even though the 3 inches of rain we got last week the trails where in great shape and it is shame that is will be closing for three months Jan 1st!
When Ben and I got there we met a few fellow dirt bike riders. One guy had a YZ250f and the other had a 1999 or so 250exc two stroke. After hanging out with the KTM rider it turns out that he and his Dad until his passing where huge Japanese Motorcycle collectors.
It was really cool talking to him about all his projects and favorite bikes. In 1991 my brother had a 1969 DT250 which is the oldest bike I have ridden but it was fun to ride.

We used to ride it down in ST Pete and just had a blast spinning the wheels in the sandy alleys.

Does anyone wanna ride the forest roads around Springer Mtn on New Year's Day?

We have 2 people going so far meeting here (LINK) probably around 11:00 or so.

Tibbs Trail

I believe this little section of a rocky trail is called Tibbs Trail in the Cohutta, is it always this rocky or is it because of the rain washing it down the mountain?
We had a helluva time making it up yesterday. The mist, clouds, and fog did not help matters.
My friend Mike took us on this ride yesterday on his 640, and he danced his way up the rocks, making this look so easy. It was awesome.

That looks more rocky than I remembered but the fog is heavy this time of year up there. That whole mountain is filled with rock gardens. Rock Creek, Milma, Tibbs, and Windy Gap are rocky!

Windy Gap is a bit tougher than Tibbs, but those stair steps near the top of Tibbs are a little tricky.

So it is

Yea, that Tibbs was pretty challenging, I only fell over three times...
Throw in the fog and the wet slippery rocks, I almost did call for Chinook air support.

Mike mentioned Windy Gap and I remember all the posts here, and said, maybe another day my friend.

We are going back when it's a bit drier and traction might improve.

I think we did Milna and it was awesome except for the traction on some of the downhill sections and visibility. We were hoping for better but oh well, just smile and ride!

I lasted all of 30 seconds.....

So yesterday, Twisty and some other friends headed out to Kentuck before they close the OHV parks for 3 months.

I was going to meet them on my WRR, but got up late and decided against it. Then later my wife was basically kicking me out of the house so she could clean, so I jumped on the strom and rode over to Cheaha then Kentuck to say hi to the guys. It was a nice 2 hr+ ride over there and I came in from the Cheha side and wasn't quite sure where the entrance to Kentuck was so after about 45mins of wondering around very muddy roads, I found it.

I actually tried to take my strom into the trails, but it was so snotty and slick and I couldn't make it up one of the hills, so turned around and headed back. I probably made it a mile in before I turned around. Tried another trail, but that one got bad too, so went back to the parking lot to wait.

I figured they were all playing on the back loop where it dries the quickest, so I called Twisty and he said they were all headed to the parking lot where I was waiting and would be there shortly.

Bob with his Gas Gas 250 showed up first and offered me to jump on it and try out his new suspension settings. I rarely turn down a ride on something and I've ridden his bike before, but he had just done a bunch of work to the suspension and had brand new tires on it, and I was looking for an excuse to go play out there a bit. No one else had come back yet, so I figured why not. I'm in my Aerostitch suit, street helmet, and dual sport boots, what could go wrong? Well I zipped off from the parking lot and man right away the bike was feeling good. I guess a little too good because about the 3rd to 4th jump and less than 30 seconds into the trail, I launched off of a nice jump and knew things were going down hill fast when I saw the turn coming up and I wasn't going to make it. I slid off the path into a 3ft ledge and landed with my left leg straight out and the full weight of the bike on my leg. I had made it further into the trail on my damn vstrom than the gasgas, albeit a lot slower!

I just knew I had screwed something up bad when I crashed. I felt my leg pop and thought for sure I had broken something. After a few mins of laying under the bike moaning to myself and calling myself an idiot, I managed to crawl out and get over to the ledge I had ran into and sit down. All I could do was wait for someone to find me. Thankfully, it wasn't too long before Twisty and Josh came up on me sitting there. I told them if they could get me on a bike I'd hobble out of there back to the parking lot. They got me on the gasgas, but it had been laying on its side for quite a bit and they couldn't get it to kick over with me sitting on it. Twisty offered up his KTM 450 with e-start, so I hobbled on to it and I rode that out. They finally got the GasGas going and followed me out.

I hobbled around the parking lot for awhile trying to see how bad my leg was and figured at that point, nothing was broken, but I was still in pretty bad shape and there was no way I was riding my strom back home, especially with all that mud I had to fight to get in there. Some other friends offered to load it up on their big trailer and carry me home which was awesome, because Newnan was not the direction they needed to head.

So today after a Dr's visit, the verdict is a decent sprained/twisted knee. I've got a brace and crutches and go back Thursday after the swelling goes down to see if anything is worse than what they saw today.

At the very least, I'm probably off a dual sport bike for 2-4 weeks to let things heal, maybe longer. This is the first time I've ever injured my knee, so I don't know what to expect.

It could have been a lot worse for sure, so glad it wasn't.

So the lesson here is that an Aerostitch suit and street gear is not really the right gear to go ripping out on someone else's dirt bike in the mud! LOL
