There's a black hose on right side of engine with an Aluminum Knurled plug in the end of it.
Remove the plug & see how much crud comes out.

Then, start bike & see ...

Pretty sure the 09 KLX has a fan on the right radiator. I know the 06-07 models have one. You did the right thing passing on that one.

FWIW, I am pretty good at finding issues with so called "perfect" bikes, but I still always budget a few hundred bucks to fix unseen issues when buying any used bike, even a low mileage one.

Yesterday I took a loooong drive to go look at an 09 Kawi KLX that had 200 miles on it. Spoke to the owner over the phone and asked if any issues with it and he was surprised that I asked and was like 'no, there's only 200 miles on it what could be wrong??' He sent some pics and the thing looked ok. He did mention a dead battery.

So I get there, and we are sitting in the common area of his appt community doing our greetings and such, and he tells me he has the bike running to charge the battery and I was like great. We talked for about 20 min and then made our way out to where the bike was in the parking lot. Smoke everywhere, bike had overheated (no fans in that bike) and it had puked out all of its coolant in the parking lot and had been running hot for who know how long. This has me second guessing this purchase...then I check the site glass and the oil is nasty and way over the glass. Tilt the bike over and when its almost completely over on its side the site glass clears (had to be at least a quart high in a 1.5 qt case).

I ponder this situation, oh for about a minute or two, and finally say 'you know what? I think I'm going to pass'

I didn't even mention a rusted solid chain, salt corrosion all over the place, busted levers.

'Issues? what issues could there be on a 200 mile bike??'...sheesh...Thanks Craigslist!
I know the guy that selling this DR 125SE on CL

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/mcy/4257634709.html

If you want something bigger I'm about start selling my 2006 DR650 that has tons of add ons and only has 6.6K miles. If interested PM me with your email and I send you the list of add ons and some pictures.

That's funny right there.

Thx for the offer Chris, but the KLX I was hunting was a 450r - pure offroad. I have the DR350 for basic DS responsibilities and want a woods bike. Kicked around KDXs but really diggin the klx450r.

On a side note, i took another craigslist adventure tour, and anyone else been wondering where all the nice xr400r's have gone? I met another guy that had 8(YES, EIGHT) of em stashed in his garage! Turns out he runs around the southeast and buys xr400s and once he gets to about 15, gets a container and ships them to Bolivia where they fetch top $$. Kinda sad that we lose em but dude found a way to make some money.

I have had good luck with CL and some bad! I got lucky with my 09 KLX the original owner who I got it from was a Kawi tech who took good care of it and the price was very fair. Keep on looking you'll find a good one. Feel free to PM me with any questions.
