2nd Annual Daytona Bike Week Dual Sport

I'll be putting together another Dual Sport ride during Daytona Bike Week. It will take place of Saturday March 10th. We'll meet in Deland Florida about 12 miles west of Daytona and ride through the Ocala National Forest. We'll take in the Some nice forest roads, back country pavement and even cross the St. Johns on a ferry boat.
Here's some pictures from last years ride

Hope to see some of you there!
Bert

I'm also looking to get a DR350 transported from either Chiago or Pa. anyone from these areas coming down?
Let me know.

Daytona is looking better all the time.

Is there a specific time and place to meet on the 10th?

That way it could be put on the schedule/list of possibilities.
I doubt I'll have access to the net while camping unless I take the time to find a library.

We'll meet at the Huddle House on 15A (Spring Hill Ave) about 1/4 mile north of SR44 In Deland florida. If you're coming from the Daytona Area, it's about 15 minutes west of I-95 and US 92 near the speedway in Daytona.
I'll be there to grab something to eat at 7:30 and we'll pull out around 8:30.

Hey Bert

I thought you already generated a thread in regards to this year's ride

You know I'll be there

And Jaydee, Mata better be ready to walk a little

If we do the ferry crossing again the sand in that area gets worked over pretty good by speeding cars and trucks

To Jaydee...I think this event might be a handful two up...
To Jack D...I thought I just posted some generic info on the last post..I better check and I'll try to merge the two to make sure not to screw it up anymore.
To Mark..We'll see ya there and it will be much of the same route with a few new roads thrown in. I want to pre-ride a few areas to confirm the route.

That little side trip gave me a little more adventure than I was ready for or wanted. I decided if dirt (sand) road riding was in my future I needed a lighter, less breakable bike. You guys enjoy!

Are you driving or riding? I was thinking of going down for the AHRMA races earlier in the week.

Your a better man than me if your riding that DR to Daytona. I'm not sure if/when I'm going. It's a bit far out for me and I'm feeling kinda broke.

If I remember right, the basic route will be around 150 miles. We'll have about a 50/ 50 mix of dirt and country back roads. I plan on preriding next month. I plan on adding a few more dirt sections, but the route will be based off last years route with modifications.
The ideal bike is a 650/400 with a rider able to handle sand. Most of the roads will be light sand, but because conditions change with the weather, there could be sections that will test your true sand skills. Last years group included a 950 KTM, a Triumph Tiger and a 1150 GS. a couple of sections were by passed by the larger bike riders and we had a few close calls (see the picture of Ron's 650 GS in the ditch).
As I always say to anyone that asks about a ride in Florida. Even a short section of sand can prove to be a white-knuckle experience if you're not used to it.
I try to start off with easier sections so if you feel they are too much, you can bail out and just enjoy the day riding back roads.
On a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being pure pavement and 10 being a GNCC off road event, I'd consider this to be a 2 on 50% a 4 on 20% and a 6/7 on the last 30%..the only reason being is the sand. All off roads will be double track forest roads with a couple water crossings. nothing very serious and you can expect to get a little mud on your bike through one or two of them.
Hope this answers some questions.
I'll post more specific meet information with a map of the meeting location later.
Bert
