Talking The Rd to Nowere.

Well My Brother Came down to Tasssie for a bit of a ride so I obliged him with a jaunt around Nth West Tassie.

I have been wanting to do the Road to nowhere (the western explorer), from Marrawah to Corrina for years and this seamed like a prime opportunity to do it.
I had My 93 Paris Dakar and Little brother on the old 87 XT600.

After a late start we slabed it from Launceston to Stanley and took the obligatory photo of the nut.

A short ride to Marrawah, refuelled and we headed south.

Marrawah Beach

Arthur River Bridge. (Had to get a bridge shot in)

The Bitumen ends!!!

Little Brother does a "Charley Borman" on the road to Temma
(yes he did get it all the way up, I just was to quick on the shutter)

The turn off just north of Temma, we now head inland.

This sign sets the Heart a pumping….Twisties next 53 Km

A lookout looking Nth twards Balfour

One of the many stops on the way

Old Faithfull

The Last 30-40k's into Corrina are the best ....

Setting up camp at Savage river.

Savage River the Next morning. (Had to get another Bridge shot in)

We got up early the next morning, 6am (the Mozzies would not let us sleep in) and headed into Corrina to catch the ferry only to find that it starts at 9am so we decided to take the Twisties back through Savage River town, Waratah and head up over Cradle mountian.

Early morning on the Pieman River

The Ferry over the Pieman (don't pay the Ferryman till after 9am)

That Sign

On the way up the Savage River Rd I see the back end of the XT lock up out comes the kick stand, Little brother flys off the bike throwing helmet mid air (it was quite spectacular to see). A bee had hit him fair and square in the middle of his glasses bounced down and stung him just below the eye

All we had in the first aid kit was Calamine lotion....Must remember to pack Stingdose next time.

The Savage River Rd

We stopped of at the old Mt Bishof tin mine in Waratah

The Rd up over cradle Mountian got a wee bit cold for the Queenslander 930m no sooner had we put the warm stuff on we were down the other side into a bueatiful sunny day!! We pulled in just below the Lemonthyme power stating and took it off again!

Looking back up to the Power station.

We ducked back to Launy via Mole Creek.
Heres one for the Scousers!

All in all not a long Ride (2 days) and about 850km's

but we had a ball caught up on Old times and rode some great dirt!!

Hope you enjoyed reading this ride report as much as did reaserching it!!!

Wow. That's a part of Australia that I'll probably never get to see. Thanks for taking me there.

Great pictures and story. Thanks for sharing. It's nice to get away with family now and then.

The good thing is, your damn motor can't read. If it says oil on the container, it's pretty much OK to dump in there.... ED.

Excellent report and pics (especially the bridges...lol)

Thanks for showing the Western Explorer, I've got to get up that way this year for a few days, looks awesome.

Do you know whether you can still get through to the NW tip of Tassie?

Nice report, and a beautiful landscape! You guys "down under" should consider it your duty to keep us northern Hemisphere-types entertained through the winter. Now get to work- we'll expect another report from you soon...

Hey Fuddy hows the KTM????

I don't know for sure but I think it is on private property???
You can see the wind farm from Marrawah. Would be a good trip there though.

Hey Big B,

KTM's going great thanks, was out with Scott yesterday - had a ball. We might be doing the Western Explorer in March all going well.

You free in Feb for an overnighter?
