Question Sugestions for nor tar routes Sydney to PI for World Supers in March

Anyone have some suggestions for some "fun" non tar sections that can be incorporated into a 3 day ride down to the Island from Sydney in March for the Supers. Please feel free to be a detailed as possible. Cheers. Anyone else headed down?

Having just pretty much done this ride on a 950 I believe the answer is yes

Day 1,
Sydney -> Nowra (Tar, booring)
Nowra -> Braidwood via Nerriga (dirt, can be a challenge in the wet)
Braidwood -> Bateman's Bay (Tar but twisty fun)
Bateman's bay -> Moruya (Tar, Booring but can recommend the Adelaide hotel)

All up about 360km

Day 2
Moruya -> Araluen (Dirt back road)
Araluen -> Major's Creek (Steep dirt back road)
Major's Creek -> Captain's Flat (fast dirt)
Captain's Flat -> Jindabyne (fast dirt)
Jindabyne -> Orbost via the Barry Way and McKillop's Bridge (steep dirt followed by 65km of twisty tar - heaven on a stick!)

All up about 550km

Day 3
Orbost -> Buchan (twisty tar)
Buchan -> Omeo via Timbarra (you don't go in to Timbarra though - fast dirt logging road)
Omeo -> Bruthen (twisty tar)
Bruthen -> 'The Island' (booring tar)

Probably about 450km or so (didn't go to the island).

sounds allright to me for a transit run. There are lots of side-trips you can do if you're keen - just check the signs and maps. The most interesting things usually say something like "4wd track, Dry weather only" :P

better qualify your question with how long you have to get there.

i'd recommend syd-wollongong-albion park-jamberoo-kiama-nowra-araluen-braidwood-numerella-cooma-jindy-barry way then follow something like the barry sheene ride route.

not enough dirt, not too much boring tar tho.

Sydney - Nowra - Nerriga Rd - not much dirt now - Braidwood - thru to Numerrella (cooma) but take Nimatabell turn before you get to Numerella- at nimatabell turn right and dirt towards Dalgety - at the tar turn left and head to Bomballa - Bomballa to Delegate then the dirt down to Buchan - can be an easy 2 day or a full 1 day - most dirt on a direct line to PI that I know of - D

elegate Pubs a great stop if you plan on making it a 2 day ride - Graeme the owners a good bloke

Delegate publican might be a good bloke but watch out for the garage owner, he gave me a right bollocking after I took some photos of his establishment.

sounds a good route. tho i do like the barry way... dalgetty to bombala to delegate sounds a roundabout way doesn't it?

I spent Xmas at Dalgety, I believe there is a road that links Dalgety direct to Delegate, the Jimembuen Rd. I went out on it about 35ks but does anyone know if it goes thru? It may run into private property.

Bazza Way - One of the great rides imo. Picture skew and a triffic surface - love it. As the actress said to the bishop - its a great way to enter Victoria.

The road from Nimatabell, on the eastern side of town, intersects the Bombala - Dalgety Rd - Bob mentions theres a direct dirt route - Ive not been on that one.

Barry Way is a great ride Dave for sure.

Thumb Thanks guys some very interesting food for thought.

And by the way will be trying for a 3 day ride down and 2 on the way back. I think 3 days gives a few more opportunities for interesting detours. would be keen to know if anyone has traveled and if it connects the road from Dalgety to Delegate via Jimenbuen and Corrowong?

Thumb These were some of the ideas I had, Any comments

*Queanbeyan to Adaminaby via Namdgi Nat Park (west side of Canberra)
*Tintaldra to Dargo via Omeo H'way or Mitta Mitta
*Mansfield to Moe via Woods Point
*Grand Ridge Road

with 3 days and a sense of adventure why not go in a tom groggin and out down dargo way?

I'd be cogniscant of the weather and therefore dust/gravel before picking a final route. If this drought continues I'd expect west of canberra to be not too much fun in a group unless you are really spread out.

But there are some nice tracks in there

Cool2

To tell the truth Tom Groggin to Dargo would be my preffered route. The limitations I have to work with are convincing a rider not to far away from retirement with a dodgy knee on a GS12 with Anakees and little dirt experience.
