Thanks for the head's up I bought one. Was trying to get one made locally, but it became a huge PITA so I gave up. I'll be on the local forest service roads a lot this summer so I'm glad to have some headlight protection....

I'm a welder by trade but don't have one at home. (yea I know) I am saving up for one now and will probably make a batch up and sell them for cheap. Nothing fancy but will look good and stop rocks from hitting. It's a pretty easy build and cost next to nothing to make. Maybe some aluminum skid plates are in the works too. Just need a grand for a welder and I am ready to go.

If ADVrider would give us KLRistas our ow2n sub-forum like the BMW folks so we could keep all our threads in play this would be a better KLR site than the-one-that-shall-not-be-named.....

Sadly any KLR thread in the Thumper forum is off the front page and gone in a day or so expect for this one and the KLR mods thread.

I don't need one now, but if you build one send me pics and I'll throw them up on my KLR Blog for other folks to find.....

I like that site, it's decent with some nice, well intentioned folks. But, I always felt like I needed to run into the garage to make sure my KLR hasn't exploded because I haven't done the Doo yet.

Yes, I will probably do it around 10,000 miles. Yes, I will probably buy it from Eagle Mike. He's supplied my bike with decent stuff in the past & I know he is very helpful & knowledgeable. But... No, I do not see the DooHickey as the Uber-High priority, do it asap or the minute you leave the dealers lot because if you don't you're going to spontaneously explode NOW!!!-type of thing for the newer gen bikes.

Alrighty then. Here are the steps I took to paint my KLR and what I used.

Before starting, I bought:
- 4 cans of red Krylon Fusion spray paint (made for plastic)
- 2 cans of black High Heat Enamel from Tremclad (for the tank)
- 2 cans of clear Rust-oleum
- 1 can of flat black enamel
- Painter's tape
- 1 sheet of fine sand paper
- 1 sheet of very fine sand paper

Before painting, clean the area as best you can and rough it up with the sandpaper.

Tape off the areas you don't want to paint

Sand down and paint! Careful, though. for some reason, all my red spray paint cans were shooting out the paint instead of spraying it, so you may want to wear gloves. the paint is also very runny so you'll need quite a few layers.

Try peeling off the tape while the paint is still slightly sticky.

I put flat black on the inside of my front cowling

As the pieces started to dry, I was eager to see how it was going to look so I started putting it back together

And the finished product:

Watch out for Buffalo.

I rode my KLR650 on a Concours Owners Group ride today because my Connie needs tires. Went to South West Oklahoma to the Wichita Wild Life Preserve. It's open range and you could literally run into a buffalo. The fence is to keep the buffalo off of Fort Sill Army Base.

Mt. Scott, 1990 ft.

Went by the wind farms. These things are about 200ft tall. Wheat is ready for harvest. Combines everywhere.
It was so windy it wore me out, 328 mile ride. Still we had a great time.
