I don't need one now, but if you build one send me pics and I'll throw them up on my KLR Blog for other folks to find.....

I like that site, it's decent with some nice, well intentioned folks. But, I always felt like I needed to run into the garage to make sure my KLR hasn't exploded because I haven't done the Doo yet.

Yes, I will probably do it around 10,000 miles. Yes, I will probably buy it from Eagle Mike. He's supplied my bike with decent stuff in the past & I know he is very helpful & knowledgeable. But... No, I do not see the DooHickey as the Uber-High priority, do it asap or the minute you leave the dealers lot because if you don't you're going to spontaneously explode NOW!!!-type of thing for the newer gen bikes.

[QUOTE=VikB;18710932]If ADVrider would give us KLRistas our ow2n sub-forum like the BMW folks so we could keep all our threads in play this would be a better KLR site than the-one-that-shall-not-be-named.....

Sadly any KLR thread in the Thumper forum is off the front page and gone in a day or so expect for this one and the KLR mods.

Alrighty then. Here are the steps I took to paint my KLR and what I used.

Before starting, I bought:
- 4 cans of red Krylon Fusion spray paint (made for plastic)
- 2 cans of black High Heat Enamel from Tremclad (for the tank)
- 2 cans of clear Rust-oleum
- 1 can of flat black enamel
- Painter's tape
- 1 sheet of fine sand paper
- 1 sheet of very fine sand paper

Before painting, clean the area as best you can and rough it up with the sandpaper.

Tape off the areas you don't want to paint

Sand down and paint! Careful, though. for some reason, all my red spray paint cans were shooting out the paint instead of spraying it, so you may want to wear gloves. the paint is also very runny so you'll need quite a few layers.

Try peeling off the tape while the paint is still slightly sticky.

I put flat black on the inside of my front cowling

As the pieces started to dry, I was eager to see how it was going to look so I started putting it back together

And the finished product:

Watch out for Buffalo.

I rode my KLR650 on a Concours Owners Group ride today because my Connie needs tires. Went to South West Oklahoma to the Wichita Wild Life Preserve. It's open range and you could literally run into a buffalo. The fence is to keep the buffalo off of Fort Sill Army Base.

Mt. Scott, 1990 ft.

Went by the wind farms. These things are about 200ft tall. Wheat is ready for harvest. Combines everywhere.
It was so windy it wore me out, 328 mile ride. Still we had a great time.

Geart photos Jaketinaboxer...and that is a bison not a buffalo and don't try to pet them...lol. Good looking KLR...I need crash bars on mine...I had a 1987 model for awhile but now have a 2008...just bought it 2 months ago...I am trying to get it all sorted so I can a few long trips around oz. In the second photo you can see our(family land) just above the panniers...I miss family and home...mums cooking mostly. The wind farm...Kimballs ranch is a great place to go for a hike...I use to go rattlesnake and treasure hunting there...the guy that runs the place...Tom...a pommie is a great guy. It has been about a 1 1/2 years since I was back in the states and home. I will try to make it back to Oklahoma near the end of the year...depends on money...lol. I just became an Australian citizen last week...now I have dual citizenship...yahoo!...another thing to mark off the bucket list.
What year is your bike what have you done to it? What tyres(aussie spelling) are you running? When I bought mine it was in pretty bad shape...42,000ks on it and heaps of scratches and bolts missing and well it didn't run...electrical problems. It came with home made pannier racks and pelican type cases for panniers on it. I just did the Eagle mikes doo. The carb has been done except I haven't put the washer on the needle yet...it has a Lexx Exhuast....so far runs pretty good.
Enjoyed the photos of your bike and home...be safe and have fun.
Cheers

Different limbs of the same family tree. Bison are native to the Americas; buffalo to Asia.

What year is your bike? 2007.

What tyres(aussie spelling) are you running?
I have 2 sets of wheels, street set in the pictures are Pirelli Scorpion S/T's
90/90- 21 front and 130/80- 17 rear
Off road (nothing hard core, I have a different bike for that) I run
Continental TKC- 80's same size as the Pirelli's.

What have you done to it?
Corbin reg. seat.
Larry Roeseler progressive front springs.
Cogent Dynamics “Moab” shock.
Pro Taper Fat Bar Risers.
Pro Taper EVO 1 1/8" fat bars. Henry/Reed bend.
Sub frame bolt upgrade/ drill thru top bolt.
Super Brace, fork brace.
Dual Star mirror relocate to clutch perch.
Ram GPS ball mount in old mirror socket.
Pro Moto Billet shark fin and oil cap.
I drilled the oil bolt and J.B. welded a rare earth magnet in it.
Over sized front rotor, both wheels.
I keep a set of pads matched to each disc for each of the 4 wheels.
Aluminum skid plate. I drilled the edge to access the doo adjustment bolt.
Caribou Pelican panniers and top box.
Relocated rear blinkers (in) because of Caribou cases. You can do this without the cases.
Center stand.
IMS foot pegs.
L.E.D. flashing break light.
Relocated tag, top edge against tag light.
Did this after I ripped off the tag and had to trim the broken mount area.
Removed kickstand and clutch "safety" switches.
No cotter key axel nuts.
Happy Trails nurf bar/foot peg combo.
I removed cheese'e Happy Trails foot pegs and installed my original KLR pegs.
Extra bright lifetime head light bulb.
Drilled the carb. slide and added 2 washers to the needle.

Purchased but not installed yet
RaceTech Emulators for front forks.
Complete stainless engine bolt kit.
Eagle Mike's doo and coil spring.

So many upgrades the only way to get the value from
the bike, is to wear it out!
