You're exactly right! Along with air filter and chain next weekend (depending on weather). However, my findings differ from yours: my doohickey and stock spring were fine. Good tension on the spring and still had plenty of travel to tighten cam chain (just over 13k miles on bike).

Check this out though, this is what happens to bikes with good doo springs...(note the finish)

An aborted hill climb yesterday transformed my high fender into a low fender.

Some of us Okies are planning a mini-Dakar-like rally weekend at the Little Sahara in Western OK in February. Should be fun.
When is the mini-Dakar rally? Just a note: All vehicles need to have a flag and pole to enter the dunes at Little Sahara Oklahoma. State law allows off road vehicles to drive on selected streets in the town of Waynoka. I haven't been to Little Sahara in a few years but from past experience you should bring everything you might need. Shops were not open in the winter. I did find this on the net, called (at 8am) to find if they are open in the winter but no answer.

Guess you're asking me? Haven't got to try it yet. Building the bike out of parts coming from a friend's garage. '88 frame, unknown motor, '05 body... suspension... Who knows? Still need to buy some other parts, trying to do a budget minded build. Its taking a little longer but is pretty fun. I will update when I get it going. Other than the FCR, it will have a T-4 slip on. Stock motor. Looked at what people have done jetting wise on a 39mm FCR. Not too sure on it though, seems to vary a lot. Mine is a 37mm that I took straight off my old WR250F, so I am going to start with it as is and go from there. Should I move this to the KLR modifications thread?

In Colombia, the police uses KLRs :)

There are other ones painted in 'hi-viz' yellow-green... I haven't had the chance to take pics of any of those.

Cross posting there would be a good idea, provided we get video of your super duper 4th gear wheelies

If you haven't already, post up your parts wanted list in the Flea Market, generally KLRistas are sitting on a few crates of "spare parts that are not junk regardless of what my wife says and I will totally use them at some point"...parts.
