Guess you're asking me? Haven't got to try it yet. Building the bike out of parts coming from a friend's garage. '88 frame, unknown motor, '05 body... suspension... Who knows? Still need to buy some other parts, trying to do a budget minded build. Its taking a little longer but is pretty fun. I will update when I get it going. Other than the FCR, it will have a T-4 slip on. Stock motor. Looked at what people have done jetting wise on a 39mm FCR. Not too sure on it though, seems to vary a lot. Mine is a 37mm that I took straight off my old WR250F, so I am going to start with it as is and go from there. Should I move this to the KLR modifications thread?

In Colombia, the police uses KLRs :)

There are other ones painted in 'hi-viz' yellow-green... I haven't had the chance to take pics of any of those.

It's one of my favorites, too.

Cross posting there would be a good idea, provided we get video of your super duper 4th gear wheelies

If you haven't already, post up your parts wanted list in the Flea Market, generally KLRistas are sitting on a few crates of "spare parts that are not junk regardless of what my wife says and I will totally use them at some point"...parts.

Talking '89 KLR upgrades

Mates,

I recently purchased a 1989 KLR completely stock with low miles. I'm looking to ride this baby into the ground, and to do so im going to need advice on what upgrades and replacements I should keep an eye out for.

Most of my riding will be done during long trips that include both on and off road ventures. Im trying to keep her running smooth as possible, so any advice or tune ups you know about will be greatly appreciated!

#1 if it hasn't been done, do the Doo. I prefer Eagle Mike's.

Recommend these items:
  • take off the clutch cover to check the oil screen for the oil pump pickup (due to age)
  • replace the fork seals and fluid
  • Clean and lube rear swingarm bearings (due to age)
  • HID upgrade
  • Consider bypassing the sidestand safety
  • Check the spokes (due to age)
  • Doohickey
  • Other
