I got my new jet, so I was checking the over revs. It would sputter a bit at high rpm's. In the std compression wiesco piston I have the vavle recesses are in the wrong places. The valves hit the piston about 5mm away from them on the top of the piston.

Yamaha wants $85 each for them. One is bent for sure.

What is a 5y100 head off of? 4 valves?

Valve springs & keepers etc? Just damaged?
Sounds like a pretty good deal.

Top end

Anyone need a top end off a 1992 XT600? This includes valve cover, rockers, camshaft, head, valves, etc... The whole top end and it is in really good shape. If anyone is interested send me a PM.

Oil and oil change interval

Quick question folks, what kind of oil are you using in your xt and how often are you changing the oil? I have a 1984 if that helps with recommendations, primarily on road riding (long distance traveling)

thanks!

Well, I feel stupid now. Just figured out I put my Wiesco piston in wrong. Arrow supposed to point towards the exhaust valves. I must have did it wrong when I rebuilt the transmission last year. Costly lesson learned. FYI for the rest of you on what NOT to do when you install a piston.

Cost: $129 for a new piston and $50 for used valves. This is on the cheap (as usual)...

Money sent. I hope the TT valves are the same size as the XT's.

I use Castrol RX-Super 15W-40, which is (i think) an API CL-4 Diesel engine oil in all my bikes (SRX6, XT6, VFR400). I change my oil and filter every 3000 kms / three months. You could probably extend this interval out more, but I figure oil is cheap, and during the hot summers here (and the abuse I put it through!) it does have a bit of a hard time.

I used to use Shell SX-4, but at nearly 2.5 times the price, it didn't give me any noticeable better performance or service intervals.

Thumbs down

I got the valves ED, but it looks like the 5Y1 TT? exhaust valves are 30mm instead of 31mm in diameter. I have a 34K on my XT valves. I looked it up and the 5Y1 exhaust valves are off a 1983 Yamaha XT 550. So if anyone needs some exhaust valves off a XT550, let me know.

I do have another source for a new valve.
