Tach Needle off

Hey guys my needle in the tach came loose and fell off and now is bouncing around inside, Last night I removed the tach, In the back there are 2 screws I removed but it didn't come apart, Is this thing sealed some how after the screws are removed? I tried pulling it apart and separating it with no luck.

1990 xt600 starting issues

Ok guys, pull out the thinking caps on this one... Last year went to start her, (Electric Start) did not fire up, but once I released the start button, she just kept cranking away, turn the key off...still cranking away... battery finally dies. I think to myself...WTF. OK, new starter relay, the old one must have shit the bed. Replaced and starts up no problem for the rest of the season. Fast forward to last week (After sitting all winter).
Turn the gas on... CHECK
Battery Charged... CHECK
Key on... Check
Press starter, grinds away... NO FIRE!! Now here is WTF
Release starter and she just keeps trying to start, till the battery dies. Just like last time.

Is there some other relay that would cause that?
Possilbe that the starter button is sticking in the closed position, letting the relay think it is still pressed? Never heard of that happening but that is the only other thing I got.
I figured with a new starter relay I had that problem fixed? Anyone?

Starterrelays is more prone to get "stuck" when the battery is low. Just tap the relay, and it will unstuck itself =)

Coots: I think its sealed, so start digging away.

A weak battery will burn the starter relay, like Jens said. Sparks will fly, and the contacts will stick together even when you release the starter button. That probably is your problem (probably, not certainly)

The starter relay may or may not be OK.

Thanks Jens and G-

I thought about the battery condition as well, I need to replace it this year anyway so I will start there.

Someone want to make me an offer on this? I'd like to get it out of the garage...It's in great shape, and knowing how rare these bikes are in the US it's never a bad thing to have spares....

Leatt STX

Hey guys sorry if this is wrong thread but wanted to pass the info along on a great dual sport jacket for my fellow XT riders, Motorcyclecloseouts.com has the Leatt STX jacket for $195.00 in a Large size on closeout. Don't know if anyone likes/wants Leatt but for a normally $450-500 jacket Ill take the risk. Anyone else interested check them out. Let me know!!

Anybody know of any twin exhaust systems to fit the XT600e 2003. Some thing like the twin Arrow cans you can get for the XT660X ? If not just any decent recommended aftermarket exhausts in general

I dont think theres any twin exhaust systems made for the xt600 you'll need to fab something yourself.

But any aftermarket exhasut sounds nice on a rather big bore thumper. I have a laser produro myself, and like it.

By the way, does anyone know of a bigger stator for our bikes? I need more juice for accessories. Mine is a dj02 /2003 model.

Exhaust

Hi Tom ,

In the dim and distant past Motad did a twin exhaust for the XT - but they both exited out of the same side , sort of stacked on top of each other , I had one and it smashed my rear caliper off after landing off a jump ! You might be able to get a google picture ,

Cheers

Glenn

Hi Jens

Just changed stator on a friend's tenere yesterday. We mounted one from electrix (I Think the Company Name was) to be able to draw more power. PM me if you want more details (in Danish)
