Barbaro Put Down Today

Sad, such a beautiful horse. The owners made the decision to put him down as a result of constant pain for the animal and Barbaro's future life in his present condition.

I know, it's just a horse, but it is still sad.

That's truly a shame. With all the doping/wifebeating/stealing/raping going on in pro sports, it's hard to find a human hero-athlete anymore.

Barbaro was a true fighter. RIP.

sure there is...but a horse is a creature of wind and beauty, power and grace, no matter his/her breeding. With the wind in his/her mane, nostrils flared to catch all oxygen, great lungs and legs pumping...it's just a horse, but nothing else matches it.

poor Barbaro...may he run for the roses in all of our dreams.

You know what I mean Hedge. THere is so much going on around us, people dying, etc. and we get saddened by the loss of a horse. All horses are beautiful, but maybe it is more what they represent to us than anything else. So at that point you are right, there is no such thing as "just a horse".

Still makes me sad.

No, you're right. I just tend to rank horses up there with people (right up until they kick my front teeth out, but that's another thread).

Bah, come on. All pro athletes aren't that way. Its just the bad ones that make the most headlines. Look at Tiger Woods, LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Gilbert Arenas, Peyton Manning, etc. If you look hard enough, there are quite a few good guys in pro sports.

But yea, RIP Barbaro.

I don't mind getting stepped on. It's the taping up of my toes that always got old.

It's a shame indeed.
They invested quite a bit of $$ to keep him around.
RIP Barbaro!!
