Mississippi Hill Country on KLR 250 - retry

Yea, I noticed that. Try this :

Mississippi Hill Country Dec 2012
I decided that 10 degrees warmer in Mississippi makes it a great place for Dec or Feb rides. I took a stop in the Natchez Trace State Park in west central TN to break up the long drive from Indiana to MS.

Sam designed the Mississippi Hill Country route as one 10 hour day from Batesville, MS to Gluckstadt, MS and a one day back. I chose to camp 2 nights at the Holmes County State Park. So I completed the ride in 3 days, about 205 miles first day, 145 second day and 160 third day.

Most of the route is dirt/gravel roads, maybe 20% paved backroads. There is one section that is not obvious where the road leads, so I was definately off road several times trying to find the right track . Then there was the wrong turn that also lead to some nice off road, although the GPS said it was a road.

I can recommend the trip, the routes Sam provides are accurate and fun to ride. I've posted two versions of the ride report to youtube, a 4 1/2 minute and an 11 minute version:

Hey, old animal parts stink.
There was a tannery in my home town that was torn down nearly 50 years ago. You can still smell it most of the time.

A couple of my rides

Not sure if I posted my pair of minimalist touring rides here or not. I was just sitting here dreaming of a spring tour, and decided to post (or maybe re-post) them.

My new '99 DR350SE

...and here's the most recent addition to my minimalist touring stable. Just a wee tad over the displacement limit for this thread, but I do plan to use it for minimalist touring.

For 250cc lower speeds and backroads is a mx helmet going to suck? I commute on my bike as well and in the summer it is hot and humid. I imagine mx types are a lot cooler and would be good for city traffic.

Nope, it'll work just fine. That's what I use during the warmer months.

Spring Schming, get out there and ride. Spring is 5 months away. Get on your winter riding gear and Go!

^^Trekker

That was what originally turned me on to the Trekker...maybe it's market-specific, or they dropped it?
Haven't actually looked recently...

Hey HandKPhil, you can only ride one of your KLR250s at a time, and now you have that super clean looking DR350........I'd love another KLR250. Had a 2001 and rode it a lot. Did some really fun off road on it and commuted about 65 miles a day into Seattle with it. Really wish I still had it. It was also the only Japanese bike I've ever owned that the engine blew up on (under warranty), but was just about the perfect bike. I alsp rode an XT225 for a few years and liked it to.

I put new tires, bars and grips on that shiny new DR 350 yesterday, then took it for a nice 25 mile blast to scrub the tires in. It was 42 degrees and sprinkling rain. I ain't no fair-weather rider.

Well, the DR has made one of the KLRs redundant. This one has about 1500 mile miles on it now, if I remember correctly. I paid $2150 for it, then put about another $100 into it for fluids, filters, bar risers, etc. It's pretty flawless, as you can see. Starts in one kick. If you wanna pay me what I have into it, and pay to ship it to Hawaii, just let me know
