This is the Obleisk above Clyde. Very big bit of rock in an otherwise barren dry area.

And just to prove it's barren and dry and rocky.

Then it was down the road and a loop to Lake Onslow and to Millers Flat for lunch. Venison, yum. I must admit i dropped the bike up in the hills. Doing about 1mph. Coming to a stop beside Stu on a grassy slope and the back kept on coming round to meet the front. I was laughing before the bike had hit the deck, right beside Stu and his ring side seat.

Carpark. Lunchtime. We had to ride up into the hills after lunch and the weather went all misty and wet. You couldn't even see the hills you were riding up, or the gates you were ment to go thru. Very difficult when you are following directions on a rolling route book.

Hard to see from this shot but when i left for the afternoon run some wise arse had put apricots inside my gloves.

And i fell of properly coming down a steep grassy hill. Front wheel hit a rock hiding in the wet grass and it was see ya later. Nice wee face plant. No more photos of the afternoon. But we did ride more farmland and then it was about a 1 hour tarseal ride to Gore. Soaking wet.
And this is Noel after we had done the airfilter change on our bikes.

One way to get the bike clean. Leave it out in the rain.

Just jump on a plane ronend1 and read a bike magazine. 24hrs isn't that long.

This is about 1hr into Day 2 and having a wee rest after travelling thru the Hokonui Hills area. Unluckily, a KTM950 rider back up the road came across a sheep in the middle of the road and couldn't miss it. One long skid mark in the gravel, one dead sheep, and one brown skid mark elsewere. Rider was shaken to say the least but OK.

This is the "horrible" terrain we had to deal with for the next 2 days.
Hill Point Farm area i think in the Taringatura Hills.

New Zealands first stunt tractor. Gotta love them Southlanders sense of humour!

And more gas at Otautau

Then more forestry roads to get to the lunch stop at Merrivale. Robbie Crickets place. Robbie laid out most of the course on a couple of Yamahas that Yamaha NZ donated. A WR450 and a XT660. And a great feed it was too. Venison again as well.

The boys rolling the afternoons route sheets.

After lunch it was an amazing ride thru some rolling farm land. Birchwood Stn, Takatimu Mtn - Mt Linton Stn, Wairaki River crossing, Brunel Forest. It was pure majic. And steep and rocky and hot with lots of flies and sheep. Didn't come across any sheep with their heads stuck in fences though, aye Cocky!?
Here are the photos of the area.

Wrong gate.........

In the above photo we were heading for the gap in the middle between the 2 hills.
Mt Linton Stn doing some sheep type things....

Trying to find the track we're ment to be on. Had to come back thru a wee boggy piece. Unfortunately i was behind Craig on his 990. All i saw was this wall of shit and mud blacken the sky heading my way as he dialled up the throttle. All i could do was laugh. The flies were attracted to me after that for some reason.

And this is round the other side of the hill from where i got roosted. An incredibley corrugated and rocky track over 1km long. It was hard riding and did i mention it was hot!

Rest time before crossing the river and heading up a steep hill.

And where we are going...

990 attracting flies like flies to shit for some reason.

We had to go down after we went up.

More scenery.

More riders. Malcolm, Noel, Grant, and Cocky(Mark) i think.

Malcolm and Delwyn. Delwyn can ride the wheels off that bike wee bike. And she is a good drinker.

A wannabe building in the middle of nowhere.

And after a few more miles of riding we made it to Te Anau for.........Noel.

They were good to. Too good actually.
Malcolm looking guilty.

And Craig. He had a head start because his bike was bigger

This is Dave trying to find out Natalies room number.

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

Wonder what they are looking at...........

Trev Kirby trying to sit on Bill Veitch. And the tables aren't getting any emptier. No where near dinner time either.

Popular table.....

We had to eat, but that was after we all decided we had to much to drink and couldn't be bothered doing the next days road book sheets so in a fit of alcoholic excitment Craig offered to pay Emma Gilmour $20 to do the cutting and taping for him. The fee was eventually settled at $50 A good bargin the rest of us thought.

And then it was breifing time. Noel had problems getting down the stairs. Got his hand stuck between the wall and the handrail. Very talented lad. But he can eat something wicked.
