Anyone ever used them?

I believe MCN tested tire balancing balls several months ago. Their conclusion was don't give up your static balancer. The balls somewhat balanced a wheel but not as well as a well placed weight.

Jim,

I've researched 'em, and read lots of good stuff. I cannot imagine myself shelling out the $$ at the present time, but the piece of mind....knowing that I can get back home without replacing/patching a tube, is compelling!

Other than the initial cost ($150. or so per wheel), there really is no down side to 'em.

Not the same thing. The Scott product replaces the innertube.

I could swallow the $150 a wheel, but what worries me is that they dont seem to have been tested for higher speeds? The peace of mind is definitely worth it!! I wonder if they are also re-usable across other (replacement) tires?

tire balls

Took me a damn hour to change a tube on the dvdaz ride......I would rather continue the ride deal with it back at the shop... on the tire machine.

Tire balls are so 1980s, here's the future...
Michelin Tweels, airless tires. Just saw them in the latest Cycle World I think. They have a motorcycle tire as well.

How about Michelin Bib Mousse? I sell a ton of this product around Baja time every year.

I would expect the "Tweels" will come out as spares before they are fitted as all the time treads.

Watched the video's of the Tire Balls. They look like they would be great for off road applications. If I were going to ride around the world on unknown roads....I think I would use them

8.5 psi seems like it'd be good for the dirt but it'd tear your tires up (even more than normal) on the road.

Edit: Saw on the other site that they can be aired up to 12-13 psi. Better but still not a lot to keep the bike from squirming on the pavement.

I dont think the Bib Mousse can handle the heat of the freeway...so I hear. I have also heard that the balls can be aired to 16 lbs which is fine as I have run tkc 80's down to 14 on the road with no problems.

I've never had a bike with tubed tyres, so maybe I'm out of line... but it seems like a ridiculous idea. Wouldn't they be a pain to install?

EDIT - removed comment about 8.5psi.

I have changed plenty tubes in the field and the older I get, the less I want to do it. I have a full blown tire machine in my shop so installation and repair would not be a big deal.
