bmw x-challenge touratech tank

hi all, I was looking at some of the threads on the touratech tank install and looked complicated

why cant I just route a fuel line fom the lower of the TT tank to the breather of the main like I do on my side auxilary tank? Lowest point is almost the same.

I like the large tank but want to keep it easy to swap on and off pending the ride. I woul prefer not drilling my stock tank, and my side auxiliary tank worked flawlwssly draining the aux first

I think inmate SteveRed has both and tried to connect the TT tank that way but for some reason it didn't work. You might want to contact him via PM.

I drilled the main tank, and had some serious leaking issues
It's fixed now, but it took me some pain to sort it out.
I'll gues you have to drill a new hole for the vent if you'l try to use the OEM vent line?

By then you probably figure out that the main design on the TT tank really was the best

I installed mine and had no issue at all. However I did take my time and read the direction a few time first. The other thing I always do is lay all the parts out to make sure I use the right one for each step. Here is a link to all my pics and if you have a question just ask. Pics

in theory it should work right. Route the petcock from the TT tank to main tank breather, and put some ball-valve breather hose on the TT tank.

or is the lower portion of the TT tank too low for the suction to overcome the gravity to pull up the gas? Eitehr way I think Im going to get the tank, but ideally use w/o drilling

What about the associated bracketry that holds the tank on, would you remove that too? With the amount of effort needed to fit the tank I think it`s meant to be left on once fitted.

My tank went on a few days ago, and while it was a major operation, we had no real dramas.

Went for one ride though and noticed a crack had developed under the left fuel petcock and travelled upwards a few millimetres.
