Roof Helmets

Specificaly i am looking for some information on something called a Roof Boxer Star See pic below.

I live in the US and I think they are only sold in the UK. Does anyone know anything about them? Are they good quality? Does anyone on this site have one? If wear a small Shoei XSPii, what size would that be for this helmet?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thumbs down

The first time I saw a picture of that helmet, I thought "it looks too cool, I gotta have it". The last time I was in Paris, I tried it and just HATED it:
- it feels soooooo cheap
- the chin bar is a joke, and will offer no protection at all in a fall. The hook that attaches it to the helmet is even funnier!
- the shield feels like it will explode into pieces the first time a piece of gravel will hit it, and will scratch the first time you clean it.
- I just felt "unsafe" wearing it: I don't know, it's hard to describe, the helmet seems so thin, that it seemed unlikely to offer the protection it supposed to provide.
Too bad I was so disappointed, it looks so nice...
Just my 2 cents...

Yes.

The helmet is not bad, but not to be used when very hot (no air circulation). It's fine in normal conditions.

Cool2

I have been using the Roof Boxer helmet since Nov 2000.
I got the latest version of the Boxer helmet last Sept. 2002, and there is a difference between the earlier models and the later ones, I have been using mine as a summer helmet.
My other helmets are Arai RR-4, OGK FF-3 and Nolan N100 flip-up.
Compare the Nolan to the Roof, my head is much more protected with the Roof Boxer. I would not describe this helmet as "thin" by anymean, if anything it is heavier than your average helmet. The shell material is much higher quality than a Nolan.
The clear shield scratches just as any helmet meeting gravel. The Roof has a more rigit clear shield due to its sphere-like shape, it may be able to sustain significantly more on impact before flexing, but if it does shatter upon impact, I think you would have much worse issues to worry.
I have no problem wearing sunglasses in the Roof helmet.
The airflow on top and back of your head is very limited in the Rood helmet.
I wear a size 7 1/4 hat, size Large Roof Boxer fiits me well.

HERE is another Roof Helmet retailer in PA, little less expensive.

Find the DOT sticker on the back of a normal helmet and have a local sticker maker copy it. Thats only if you really think a cop would know a DOT helmet from a non DOT helmet

Cool. I placed my order yesterday and should have my new lid by next wednesday. Yeeee!

I will do exactly what someone recomended, copy DOT and SNELL stickers in vinyl and put them in my helmet. (Strickly for novelty purposes only though)

Thanks everyone for the info.
