turned turtle

Well, I got to experience flipping a sidecar up close and personal today.
It is a perverse sort of pleasure, I must say
Film at eleven(or not).

RED - repeat after me "rubber side goes down, rubber side goes down" Since you're posting - I'm assuming you're unhurt which is good news. So how do you get a turtle off its shell?
Can't seem to find an appropriate smiley to represent flippin' a hack, but that nose job/face plant I saw somewhere in here might do the trick.

Yeah I am fine, and it wasn't my bike. In fact, believe it or not, i wasn't even driving- I was the inocent monkey.
My pix are still in the camera; the pilot might post photos and an explanation as he had a dig camera along. If not you will have to wait for a bit until I can get my photos developed. A full explanation will follow soon. It was interesting...

Tires up, upside down, on it's back. The unamed person in question has until I finish the roll of film in my camera to come forward. After I get my pix developed I will post MY version of events.
Was kinda fun, once I got my pants changed.

Uncle Blasto bought a new Silver Wing from St. Johns Honda, and asked me to help him go get it. We took his Patrol, he drove and i rode monkey. He did ask if I wanted to drive the rig down to Portland, but I declined, saying:" I LIKE riding in the sidecar. Inever get to do it. Besides, it would be good for me to see what I put people thru'."
Little did I know...
We took Oregon's LoLo Pass Road out of Hood River, around the North side of Mt. Hood.
The first section is paved one lane go cart road, which we had pretty much to ourselves.

It was a great day for a ride. The road was empty, the pavement in good shape. Uncle Blasto and I were getting into the rhythm of the road, throwing our weight to the inside of the turns...

We stopped early on to bolt up a turn signal which had come adrift...

...well it WAS a beautiful day. Took off from work, went riding with a good friend, not a care in the world....

(to be continued, either by Uncle Blasto, or myself when I get the second roll of film finished and developed... )

Well, this is the short version(details with pix in a couple of days):

Topic: Right Turns and a newbie (7 of 17), Read 181 times
Conf: Pilots' Platform
From: Vernon Wade vernon@gorge.net

I repeat: the left turns are more dangerous. By all means, practice with ballast, learn to fly- you can ride around all day with the sidecar in the air, no problem(more tire pressure-within specs- is better than less; you get much below 30 psi and the tires will squirm when you lift the car). Ballast or a heavy passenger will make Left turns more dangerous. The problem is sliding the bike FEELS more stable. It is until the bike begins to lift. At a certain point, the sidecar tire will grip and the back of the bike will start to come up. When the sidecar starts to tuck under you reach and pass the tipover point much more quickly than you will flying the car in the opposite direction. When the sidecar starts to tuck under in a left hand turn, you have seconds to straighten the bars and lean left and back. The natural reaction is a death grip and tightening into the turn, which is all wrong. On a tourist you may just do a nose stand; a patrol, with less wheel lead, may be more apt to flip clear over. Do not become overconfident when turning left.
