my limited knowledge:

oil breather/vent hose is run into the airbox (from the bottom end),
when a bike is ridden at high revs for an extended time (eg hwy use), or just ridden hard, the build up in oil pressure/temp can cause it to "vent", which may cause oil in the airbox.
Dont quote me, but this is how I believe it.

So I spose the questions are;
  • have you ridden in those circumstances recently?
  • how much oil are you talking about?
  • did you clean air filter recently and use too much filter oil?
that's all I've got, and Im not sure if its even accurate

check its not just air filter oil,it will sometimes pool up in the bottom from a heavily oiled filter .filter oil feels stickier then motor oil. get that on mine sometimes

Happens to me every time I do the filter myself. I never seem to get as much out as the bike shop does.
With previous bikes, I always had two filters and left one to "drain" on old towel in a plastic bucket for a few weeks. Must be a way to do it with just one element?

any RPM the DR will do is not considered high RPM for a bike. IMO running flat out all day wouldnt change valve service intervals much but it would increase the amount of air/oil out the breather hose
