25k on my '05.5 950ADV and heading towards my 3rd waterpump. Called up my dealer to report second failure of pump. He says. "KTM has determined that the waterpump is now a wear part that needs to be replaced every 10-15k." Me..."you're f$^&(>n kidding." He says seriously... "I wish I weren't." Fuck it...I"ll learn to replace it quicker than what the shop will charge me for doing it and the G/S gets dusted off and again becomes my primary long-distance bike.

'Maybe' help is on the way
FWIW I was talking to my dealer this past Saturday and he did mention that there was a new part number for the water pump shaft. Harder material maybe?(!) No more information that that I'm afraid. I don't know how long it's been out there or what the changes are.

I just rebuilt my waterpump for the first time at 20k, as a preventative measure prior to a Baja trip next month. The bearings, shaft and seal were still in good shape.
The vanes on my impeller were showing wear on the edges??? I replaced the impeller at about 10k for the same reason. What do your vanes look like?

It has been suspected for years that sand, possibly from the block casting process, was left behind during manufacture. This sand can be flushed out fairly simply and the pumps last, and last, and last. The factory should have been more careful, and the dealers should know better, but in the long run, the owners can do the fix or not. Then they can ride it, or "wine" (SIC) it. ![]() -cp

Let me be the first to say "don't worry about it- just ride it".
