another battery replacement option?
Got a quote from local beemer dealer for my 1987 R80 Airhead
BMW Dealer Westco W49-1209 measures 7" in length, 3" wide, 6.5" tall. 12Volt 20ah Weight 14.5lbs MSRP on Westco site: $99, $115 @ dealer. or you could go to digikey.com: Digikey.com Panasonic LC-X1220P measures 7.126 in length, 2.992" wide, and 6.575 tall. 12Volt 20Ah Weight 14.56 lbs $75+shipping(figure about $20-25)=$100 same dimensions, almost, and cheaper. I'll be going with Digikey when its time to replace. Best part? Same battery should work just fine for my 2004 R1150RT! Or if in a rush, I'll just get it at the dealer I guess.

R100gs Cheap Voltage Regulator replacement option
I just picked up a cheap replacement from National Auto for $9.00. The part is made by KEM #KVR502. It has a wire pig tail with a plug(fem) end that matches up perfect. Just a pass along... Found this buried in Old Skool from Drewb5.

Hello,
Anyone know of or used different gauges than the stock? I've got a 77 R100S and 78R80 that use the cable ran gauges. Thanks |

Napa Oil Pressure Switch - NOT
Well, I just ordered and received the NAPA OP6065 oil pressure switch. It's threads are a lot coarser and the diameter is larger than the stock switch in my 1972 R75/5. Strike one.
I tried Western OR BMW (2.5hr drive yesterday) and they were out of stock. Strike two. Went back to NAPA and they found one that fits. It is the OP6066, made to fit many european cars (BMW, Audi, Alfa, etc). Fits fine, just about 1/2" longer overall. Dave dmack screwed with this post 11-16-2008 at 05:19 PM |

That would probably fit the later airheads (/6 - onwards). Your /5 takes a fine threaded switch. |

Does it list the pressure in bars on the part? I ask because I took a used oil pressure switch from an R100 to the VW shop the other day and the only ones he had (several) were almost double the pressure rating in bars.

I know you're asking for a voltmeter, but thought i'd put in a plug for "BackOff" LED monitor: http://www.signaldynamics.com/products/Modules/HUVM.asp
And installed: http://advrider.com/forums/showpost....6&postcount=28 So far it's working great. Just enough to get my attention, but cheap and discreet installed. It's been educational to see how V drops when idling and how even turn signals being on can make a difference!

Front Brake Light Switch
To replace the brake light switch on the under tank master cylinder I used NAPA part #SL143 ($9.25) replacing BMW part #61311244334 ($36.58). Fit and functions perfectly. This part is for a mid 60s VW beetle.

Does anyone have an easy to find instrument bulb substitute?
the 12v 3w instrument bulbs for an r80g/s might be a sylvania 2821. or a napa 17037.
do you guys think this is correct? being in NYC there is not much in stock at the NAPA on 125th so it will be good to know first. of course, i dropped the bulb and it shattered and i now only have the spades jason |
