thanks for the info, I figured that would be the answer. I've dealt with bobs before and their parts have always been good quality. quess I need to give them a call.

as for the dyna 3 setup, that's what I had on my bike for the last 5 years until it died on me on a backroad in west virginia last week. I carried the points plate with me in case this happened so swapped it out and was on my way. it runs good with points so I'm going to stick with them going forward. thanks for the help.

I think these points are identical to VW beetles and Combi airhead flat four, maybe same as BMW 2002 cars if my remembering is OK

Points for /5 through 78/7 are one off. Bean can points 79/80 can use VW/Porsche common points.

Hey guys, I'm just curious about something. Not gonna do it unless I hit lottery or a great job but wouldn't mind knowing a ballpark figure.

What would you expect to pay for a complete engine, tranny, and drive rebuild? Specifically if I take out of the frame?

My 88 R100RS (new to me) has 80k reading on the odo, but the odo is broken so who knows what's really on it. There is no record of an engine or tran rebuild, but records of everything else exist.

I'm starting to pout money into replacement parts, mostly body/electrical, etc but have that tiny little fear in the back of my mind = what happens if the engine quits after I do all this, and isn't it harder/more $ to do a rebuild after a seizure than before (of course it must be)....

I'm also thinking I have it slightly apart now, so now's the time to really get to the bones of the semi old airhead. It runs nice at speed, but I'm sure it's tired.

TIA

80K + a bit more...no need to worry. If it blows smoke when tootling away from idle,eg at traffic lights, then maybe valve guides, otherwise it'll be fine. Get a compression or leak down test maybe?

Re: transmission...change the oil as per book and inspect the magnet for sharp slithers. That's when you pull the trans. Cost depends on what you get done, but I'd expect $1K+.

It ain't a /2...
If it runs great, change all the fluids and put fresh tires on it.

Ignition Coils

Does any body know of alternates for the 6V coils on the 1979 R100RS. This is the BMW p/n12131244142 for $120 each.

Thanks

Lots of used airhead 6v coils available every week on eBay. If you get them from Beemerbone yard you can expect they meet spec ohms and will function just fine. Snobum gives the full treatise on optional coils.

Likely any 6v VW coil will do the job just fine. Just verify 3 ohms rating.

TT 500 carb. help

There is a open hole that I think needs a 90* insert, aluminum, down facing directing for a clear hose on the right side just below the Idle set screw and I believe that I am missing this part.
I believe it to be a over flow for the top half of said carb.

Carb. is stock and it is a MIC. made in Japan that goes on a 1977 TT 500D Yamaha which I believe to be stock.

Or can anybody lead me to a stock diagram of this carb.?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
