Help Lee spend his tax overpayment refund on suspension.
Ohlins Front shock $550.00 Rear shock $652.00 Total $1202.00 That includes shipping and getting me the right spring and valving. The spring is afuckin important due to my size and load. Works Performance Front shock $399.00 Rear shock $699.00 Total $1098.00 That includes spring and valving and their ARS system which lets you stop the helper spring and basically is a way to change stiffness when going from one up to two. Do not know if that includes shipping I would guess not. My lovely wife is letting me spend the tax refund on anything I want so I'm thinking of her comfort here. I am leaning towards the Ohlins because I dealt with Don and Debbie Weber when I bought my Remus exhaust and they were good to deal with. Please add your opinions!!!

Dude, I can help. I'll wire you a $100 "incentive" to but these items and ship them to me down here where I can assure you they will be well used. There is nothing as heart warming to me as a donation to my worthy cause. I can sell my old shockers to raise that money for my kid sisters operation - honest

Hey Rod,
what was the differences you noticed - I a petite guys (read: 140kg) and I can bottom the beemer quite easily. I'm keen on getting a shock with more pre-load and better damping. Any comments that my fat arse blow tyre valves will be met with stony silence P

I put Works shocks on my wife's RT last month.
Ohlins are probably better, but if your old hydraulic spring tensioner is still working on your old BMW shock, Works will install it on your new rear shock so you don't have to jury rig the preload adjuster on like you do with the Ohlins. PS. I voted for Ohlins

Preload important!!!
Do any of you Ohlins folks have a picture of the "jury" rigging of the preload adjuster?
PhilSpace did you get the rear shock with the ARS system? Does your wife mostly ride one up? Do you and your wife (if your both on her bike) notice the ARS system? Price difference really is not much different for the two features (like ARS) and easy preloading may make the difference. There are 10 votes here if you voted please say why. I'm leaning towards the works at present.... Where fish ? his opinion would be nice, unsell me from buying works.

I don't have an Ohlins, but I have seen plenty of them mounted. The preload is slightly different and doesn't fit on the bracket that the BMW one is attached to.
I think the Ohlin is a better shock. I didn't want to spend the money with my wife's '96 RT. We never ride two up. She is pretty short. I ordered the shorter shocks from Works because I figured it would be easier to FEDEX the shock back and forth if there were problems with the fit or adjustments to the shorter shocks. If I ordered normal length shocks, for my 1150, they would be Ohlins for sure. The price difference isn't that much, the only advantage that I can think of is if you lived near Canoga Park and owned a gun you wouldn't have any warranty problems:):

I vote for the Ohlins. I've had them on three bikes and they just simply work for me. Caveat: I have not tried the Works, so they may be as good or better than Ohlins. I just keep going with what works (ho ho).
That said, I was prepared to beta test some Fox Racing Shox that are theoretically in development for the RT, but the last I heard was in November. I have the lead engineer's card, so maybe I'll ring him up and see where it's at. Their design intent was to have something that was as compliant as the Ohlins, but with greater range of adjustment, decouple the compression from the rebound adjustment, and make 'em cheaper. All good stuff. Reminds me of the joke where a guy walks into a vegetable stand and says "hey, that guy across the street sells tomatoes for $0.10 per pound...how come yours are $1 per pound?" Owner says "why don't you go buy them across the street then?" Guy says "because he doesn't have any." Owner says "well if I didn't have any tomatoes, I'd sell them for $0.10 per pound too." |

Maybe Fox???
Fox has front and rear shocks on Their website for $529.00 each. I have had experience with their mountian bike shocks and for the whole bike it would run me 1058.00 a little less expensive than Works.
