must be two years ago I suggested doing this very project. and NOBODY thought it was a good idea...what a unimaginative group we are.. Ya had to see a picture to understand what I was talking about.

Yip, I'd like one too. Been seriously going through the process of obtaining an ADV bike, and haven't really been 'sold' on anything yet, for various reasons... But, this bike seems to be 'it'.

I believe the donor (695 Monster) bike for the Terra Mostro weighs 370 lbs and puts out 73 hp. We have to assume they shaved a few pounds off...BikeZ says the Elefant weighs 407 lbs dry and puts out 68hp.

As flan8tive wrote, the donor bike starts out weighing a lot less. I would be surprised if the wheels and fenders were not lighter than stock. Also, moving to a single exhaust and single disc front brake probably saves some weight. Let's say it has a modest weight reduction of 10 lbs. from stock. That would be a pretty big gap -- close to 50 lbs.

point taken, but the duc is a little more unique than all the japanese clone bikes. i was mostly commenting that although the elefant has gone away, someone is bringing back the off road duc.

The Monster (even the 600) came out in 1993 which means they were in development at nearly the same time as the final edition Elefant. Comparing the Terra Mostro to the Elefant or even the Gran Canyon is perfectly valid.

If the mission of the Terra Mostro is to be a Ducati-engined adventure bike then there are certain criterion it has to or should meet.

To say the Elefant was needlessly overweight implies that there were places to trim weight from the design (ie: it was over-engineered for the intended job).

Again: where did all of the weight savings come from and are those acceptable trade-offs?

+1 to Donkey and 2spot....the Terra has massive front forks and I am guessing a longer swingarm, so net-net it cannot be that much lighter. It also will have to have a pretty good bash plate. The Terra has big shoes to fill.

I've only ridden a Fant once, and not for enough time to get into the bike's groove, but the geometry instantly presented itself.

Mine loads up Tuesday.....
