AMA Roadracing: Daytona!

It's Bike Week! Roadracing season starts this week! Can you tell that I'm happy?

Superbike will be interesting this year with the absence of Ducati and the addition of Yamaha. Tommy "T-Baby" Hayden moves to Yoshimura Suzuki and Jamie Hacking takes his former seat at Kawasaki. Eric Bostrom and Jason DiSalvo debut for Yamaha on the R1 superbike. Mladin and Spies return for Suzuki, and frankly, as Spies said last night on Wind Tunnel, in terms of competitiveness, it's Suzuki and everyone else. At the recent Daytona test, Spies was lapping faster than nearly anyone else in Superbike on his Superstock GSXR-1000. As usual, expect mind games of epic proportions to eminate from the Mladin side of the garge.

The 200, which now features the Formula Xtreme class (for foreigners, FX is kind of like a 600 superbike) looks again to be the factory Honda Miggy and Jake show, although it remains to be seen how the new Honda 600RR will perform. Yamaha will field Jason DiSalvo on an R6 and M4 Emgo and Attack Racing will represent Suzuki and Kawasaki, respectively. Of interest will be the Ducati 749 entered by Pegram Racing, which reportedly has factory support.

Speed will be broadcasting FX qualifying, Supersport and Superstock races live on Thursday afternoon and Superbike, Formula Xtreme live on Saturday.

AMAsuperbike.com has live timing of qualifying and practices on their site.

Wasn't this a class created by the AMA lawyers, I mean board, to keep Ducati out of the competition and created specifically for "the stud 2" Duhammel? Even with one short leg he still kicks A**! Graying faster....

Check your DVRs folks! Mine wasn't scheduled to record today's events because the programming guide has it labled "Daytona Bike Week," not the usual "Motorcycle Racing." I just called home and had Lady Pamela make things right for me. That was a close one!

Trick Daddy says T-Baby stil isn't healed up entirely from his Sepang crash. He is doing pretty well in Supersport tho...

Man, looking at these times, it really seems like no one has an answer for the Suzuki's yet. EBoz is close, but still 6/10 behind Spies.

I really hope this year isn't the Mat and Ben show again.

On the other hand, it's cool to see Fast by Ferracci back in the grid, and there all of the big Japanese manufacturers are present, so lets hope they have something for the Suzukis soon. I'd really have expected Honda to get closer by now.
