Take the Peak off!

Guys,
The XD is not designed for interstate travel, but it is much easier to live with if you take the peak off. I have the XD for airflow in the offroad mode, to keep kool. The peak is fine there, but needs to come off on the interstate. Your Shoei will not do the trick offroad when it is over 85f.

Question Spacer Width?

About putting a space between 2 wind screens. What is width of the spacers that anyone has installed?

What is the average hight of the inside screen?

Does putting a lip on the inside screen help?

Does the inside screen need to be cut? Did you try it full length?

Laugh inside screen

im not sure that a full length inside screen would work too well as i was under the impression that some of the problem was the pressure difference made by the screen pushing through the air
i think thats the purpose of the NACA ducts ( oh no not again ) and or holes that other guys have tried all attempts to equalise the pressure difference

I just did this with a full heighth back shield. No difference.---Cut about 1/2 the back shield off. A little less buffeting and more roar. There is a quiet spot below where my head sits. I had to duck to get to it. I didn't like it. Took the front shield off and used just the shortened screen. No roar ,No buffeting. Just normal wind noise. Tomorrow i will cut the back screen down to 2 inches and try the double screen again. -----Did this with an Arai MX pro (dirt helmet) and goggles.----------I am 6' tall with a 29" inseam, long body. I sit fairly tall in the saddle.

Today I bought KTM touring windscreen from local dealer. I mounted and tested in on highway. I am satisfied with the result even it was a windy day. It is not buffeting but just a smooth and nice wind noise. I did not need to wear earplugs but I am sure the noise will gone completely with them. I made 200 km/h top and no disturbing shaking. I think that is enough for me.

Tomorrow I will go for 600 km trip together with my wife. I want also to test if my head will twist when she is at the back. That was what happens with stock screen. I will report the result.

I did not like the top of windscreen is in front of my sight but I can get used to with it.

PS: I am 1.87m

Try this!

Was out riding with a guy with a 950 this weekend and he was still using the stock screne with no ear plugs! I said, "How can you stand it?" Mine is cut down to the dash, the only way to get peace and quiet. We swapped bikes and he said he couldn't tell the difference. I was amazed. His hearing is great, how could it be? Narrowed it down to his helmut. He wears a motocross helmut complete with beak and goggles. I wear a street helmut with visor. Am going to try his combo and see if it works. By the way, the stock screne kills my ears with good plugs in. We are both 6 feet. Any comments?

For dual sport riding the MX helmet with good ear plugs and goggles works great with my screen cut flush with the fairing. Far better than my XD.

Stupid question: aside from the ability to wear goggles against the dust, what is the value for dual sport of an XD over a regular street helmet? Is there anyway to fit goggles into a street helmet (having removed the face shield of course)?

IMHO:

The MX/goggles/ear plugs works best when you will be riding mostly trails and gravel roads where you tend to need the ventilation and the speed is limited to non-highway speeds. My MX helmet is tons quieter than my XD was, both with earplugs.

It is hard to beat a good street helmet for quiet and comfort but they tend to be warm if working very much as in trail/dual sporting.

Just my $.02

That is the Saeng MicroSwirl edging www.saeng.com
I just tried a strip around my whole stock fairing, didn't help that much unfortunately, just moved the noisy air to different but still problem areas, so I pulled it off, not much difference.

My new second fairing just arrived, so I'm going to chop one down and try the RicardoK double-screen mod and hope that helps, before I head off on a 3500mi ride in a few weeks.
