The KTM 690 SM Rocks!

Wow, I've just been out on the 690SM demonstrator at Sideways and I'm really impressed! The motor just pulls and pulls and is so smooth, it feels like it wants to send the front sky wards everytime to change gear and accelerate. Stopping isn't a problem either, the brakes are fab'.

Anyone who buys one of these babies are in for a fun ownership experience.

Mark

Yeah ... i can pretty much confirm that. After I uncorked this little guy my face went into perma grin. I can only imagine that the additional CCs will stretch the smiles a little.

Hey Mark... are they now delivering them in de-restricted form or does one still have to go through the BS of removing the throttle stop and re-jetting the carb?

Another awesome KTM bike we're not likely to get here in the US. Is it pricy in England? I imagine it would be.

It's available now in Canada, so I would think it will be available in the US.

Doesn't look like it. The local KTM also does Kawasaki, and his orders for KTM bikes are skimpy. Only the cross and supermoto competition bike, the 990 adventure, the 950 supermoto. Nothing with the big singles. KTM US apparently pulled the plug on the LC4 Supermoto, which is the one replaced by the 690 I guess. But next year that might change hopefully. The Euro is still high compared to the dollar, and most smaller companies don't even try to export for now. (Husaberg, Husqvarna, even Aprilia to some extent). The bikes they export now into the US market cost them money almost (I understand that's the reason why so many delearships closed down or do not carry these brands anymore). They only try to keep a presence so if things change with the dolar they'll be ready to go. Emissions are no longer a concern since all these bikes are Euro III, which is on par with 50 states (except California I guess)

Luckily, the 690 is a fuelie and no jetting required. The new motor is a six speed with a slipper clutch standard! I loved the few laps I got on it at the Streets of Willow Springs last Monday.
The new motor is super smooth with the counterbalancer design, the buzzzuzzzuzzzuzzzuzzzzzzzzz is gone!

Hmmm... i think i may have missed all that good news by about 8 months. My 625 SMC is a serious party. It will also detach your retinas and loosen your fillings in about a mile and a half.

This link has lot of info on all the new 690 variants from Adventure (proposed) to the SM.

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...ghlight=ktm690

While the engine sounds like a great improvement on the 640 LC4 I really don't like some of the design aspects of the SM. The vertical mufflers are just plain wrong and I don't really like the mudguard/headlight area.

Still would be a hoot to ride. I reckon there are lot of 640Adventure riders out there waiting for the new engine.

In the UK the standard bike is 5795 with a prestige model at 5995 (comes in the same paint as the black 990 Adv.

There are no carbs on these bike as it has FI.

There are also two Akro systems available for the bike with the triangular cans looking the best IMHO.

The bike looks best in black!
