B4 and After

After having been in my shop for 20 years I figured it was time to do a little tune up on the place.

Renovation update

I haven't really got much done on my shop in the last few years. Some of you may remember I started w/ this.

A 45'x45' gvernment granary built in 1939

We painted it a few years ago.

Added some metal siding and two insulated overhead doors this fall.

A long time ago the interior looked like this; 3 wooden bins on either side of an 18' wide alley

After installing plywood beams overhead and ripping out the walls I've come to this point.

Put the girls to bed for the windter last week.

Wow! Some great shops in this thread and got plenty of ideas if I ever get a change to build a new one. Time to go dirty..

Disclaimer: I'm a small time dairy farmer and mostly wrench with dirty machinery of the farm, so I'm not that fussy to clean every oil drop of the floor. Speaking about floor, my 15ton excavator was obviously too heavy for it.. Will fix it - on monday..

^I had a buddy change the oil in his truck in my driveway, and he started to wipe up the little spots of oil that got here and there, I couldn't help but laugh.

Wholly crapola! I guess it was too heavy. The cement had to be way too thin to support anything more than a truck to collapse like that or there was a hollow spot in teh fill!

I've never seen something like that!

The concrete was mixed at site, so I think it was poor quality to start with and maybe the fill wasn't packed tight enough. Also, for years during the winter time we would park our tractor with ice chains there, witch started to wear concrete.

Anyways, it's been like that for years, but I do have a master plan to fix it. Level it out, steel mesh, piping for the radiant floor heating and quality concrete mix. Some day..

Nice, is that an XT550 in the background? GF lives in Beaverton and I hear there are some nice trails up your way.

Currently I use oil heater (diesel fuel), but only when I'm working there winter time.

When I get around to fix the floor, I will connect it to our central heating system which runs on woodchips.
