Satellite Radio Signal Strength

Does anyone know why the signal strength on my satellite radio would be less on my bike then in the car even when they are right next to each other? The signal is always weaker on the bike.

If you are using an automotive antenna you are missing the ground plane provided by the sheet metal of the car body. You will get better results on the bike by using a home window sill style antenna like this:

They are ok for outside mounting so weather resistance isn't a problem.
I have Sirius. XM probably has the same style antenna.
