Bluhduh Ordering Crap from Overseas: What can go wrong?

Anybody ever fail to get a package? I ordered some carb and airbox parts from a very well respected German source that promised 8-day shipping... three weeks ago.

I called and asked 2 days ago and they were all "you should haff ze parcel already" and promised to track it and email me back... so far, nothing.

So what can go wrong? Think my stuff is sitting in some office at Homeland Insecurity?

The boat sank, the plane crashed, the UPS man lacks german, there cold be many issues. If it was me I would notify my credit card company if it does not arrive by noon friday. The tip is in your post:
Well respected, then you counter this claim with "Promised to email me back, so far nothing"
These are red flags to me in this day and age, of if you want a response now, call them and tell them you are calling you credit card holder to reverse charges on failure to deliver, then listen to them squirm a little with bullshit. Then give them the altamatum, here by noon friday, or you putting the big Kabash on the order!
Its your money, and it sounds like your dancing to their tune. Put you foot down damit, furthermore, tell them about their customer sevice, oh...be sure to speak to the individuals supervisor that answers. The little guy doesn't give a shit about you, so bump it up the ladder!
good luck!

FIWI, back in the summer of 2000 I ordered a jacket from Brosh in Israel. I was apprehensive about it, so much so that I faxed my credit card info to them, at the time I didn't want to use a credit card online. My fears were unfounded: they shipped the jacket and I received it in about a week. No problems at all. I wouldn't hesitate to deal with them again.

Oh, it was Sommer. I held out on the name 'cause I didn't want to post in Vendors, which has little traffic.
And my credit card hasn't been charged yet, I checked. Get this: when I pointed that out to them they said it could take up to four weeks for the charge to show up.

It probably got delivered to some yokel on my road who's scratching his head right now, trying to stuff 4-stroke technology into his sled.

Interesting.
You were worried about the minute possibilty that an online transaction could be hacked but you faxed your card details in plain language to an unknown fax machine half way around the world to a location that you admit you were dubious about. How did you know that that fax machine was not located in a public place where hundreds of people could walk past and simply pick up a piece of paper with your complete details on it?
It never ceases to amaze me how people are paranoid about on line info but blindly fax or give their credit card details over the phone without a second thought.

Can get stuck in customs. Depending on who they shipped it through could go quick, or slow.

customs can be anything from non-issue to MONTHS. depends on how well the sender knows the system, whose desk in lands on in customs, how strange it looks to them, how expensive it is or looks, and any number of things.

International credit card transactions can take weeks. They got their money from their bank, but the banks can sit on them waiting for enough transactions to lump together, scan for the best conversion rates, earn interest on your money for a week (it adds up if you can do that w/ billions).

I have had a lot of issues with spamfilters dumping emails recently, check your spam folder.

don't get too paranoid. But let them sweat a little and track it down for you.

Anything CAN happen but that doesn't mean it will. I've had great luck ordering from "over there". Infact, the only time I've had a problem was ordering stateside.

Thumb Update

The stuff finally showed up.

I gave it two or three weeks -it's winter here in VT (still!)- and I wasn't really in a hurry, just wanted to know what happened with the parts. I finally called and the feller at Sommer suggested without my prompting that they send a second package. It arrived in eight days flat, with all my jets, needles, and springs intact.
They had even cancelled the charge on my original order the first time I called, also without prompting, and I didn't get charged until the second package was sent.

I don't know what this says about ordering crap from overseas, but I wanna say that Sommer is a stand-up outfit, and I'd order from them again in a second if the dollar wasn't so weak.
