the best mesh jacket
sounds like an easy question doesn't it
I have been through about five of them not happy with any of them yet an older Joe Rocket Phoenix that simply sucked, but that was a few years ago - the new ones are probably a lot better a firstsgear mesh that I cannot remember the name of that I never even took the tags off of from last year (soon to be for sale in an adv flea market ner you) even tried a Kili Air that is actually a really good jacket but the liner is insulated which makes it hot as fuck all to wear "in case" of rain so it is really no better than carrying a rain jacket and is not as warm as a regular Killi sooooo it also is soon to be for sale in an adv flea market ner you I am liking this one from Power Trip for now and may buy it same issue with the waterproof liner though ![]() link looks to be a decent summer only jacket, the Killi air failed the test because the insulated line is sooooooo damn hot, otherwise it is a great jacket
so back to the beginning just what is the best mesh jacket?

Sounds like you need a Tour Master Flex. Shell zip off the outside leaving a mostly mesh jacket. Comes with both water/windproof and insulated liners.
Weighs a ton with everything installed, but if I bought one I'd probably never use the insulated liner, just the water/windproof one. Oh, but if they'd just make a 3/4 length version. ![]() |

Wifey likes her RUKKA 3.
I like my Venting Machine, but no liner.

Try a Bushwhacker
I have not worn my Darian since I got my Olympia Bushwhacker.
Its a great year round jacket for the Southwest. |

It appears to have a solid, not mesh, removable outer shell. |

![]() All four panels in the front are mesh. So is the part of the sleeves you can't see. Also, the back is mostly mesh, minus where the back protector is.

That's what makes it a great 3 season jacket for me. I would never consider an internal liner for rain anyhow (no matter what it's labeled as), that just seems silly to have to take gear off to put more gear on. I just carry a rain jacket. A rain jacket will keep stuff in the outside pockets dry too. Same on the HT Air Overpants. It's easier to pull rain pants over than to take them off and add a liner. I only put the liner in during winter. You're right though, that jacket liner is toasty!! (winter or touring only) I think you've got to be willing to bring a rain jacket if you want to use a mesh jacket. A rain jacket is light and doubles as a wind breaker at night. i don't know any around it. . Last edited by sandiegoland : 03-26-2007 at 12:28 AM. |

Think I'll just stick with my phoenix jacket with the waterproof liner. When it's cold and I don't feel like riding with a saturated shell, I simply wear a 4X gortex rain jacket as an outer layer. Between the two allegedly waterproof layers I can usually actually stay dry.

![]() I really like my Bushwhacker. Like you said, if i wanna keep the shell dry, a rain jacket does the job.

This suit has been a revelation to me in hot weather. It really keeps you cool.
I has no liners so it's absolutely 100% NOT waterproof. However, if you're caught in a summer shower you are dry again in minutes due the high volume of air flowing through the suit. Quite refreshing. |

mutineer,
If you want to go low-end, I really like my Fieldsheer Mach 3 mesh jacket. No liner, but a nice little shell that goes on the outside. Very handy and comfortable, too. Sarah

Just curious, when do you guys put on the mesh jackets? I won't even wear mine unless I know the temp will rise above 90F.
