Hi there Jay T,

I got super distracted with a trip to South America followed by no money and a new business. Never completed the project bikes.

There were at least 5 bikes, that I'm aware of, completed using the triple clamps. All are happy, as far as I know. The best pics of the clamps on a bike with 50mm Extremes is probably on Roadsacallin's travel prep thread

I'll get back to you via PM on your questions about stems and wheels and stuff. I do have a couple of clamp kits left over, which are available.

They arrived Monday, these are incredible! Superb design R-dubb, flawless craftsmanship on Guy’s part. I'll post pics as the project progresses. If anyone is thinking of a front end upgrade, I would pick up the last pair!

I laid claim on the last pair. R-dubb is machining out the lower triples a little for me that way I can use my Marzocchi.

The best part is that I only live 50 miles south of SF.

Got it done! Had the work done by Kelvin at the Cycle Shed, a true professional. Custom springs, shorten 2”, re-valved, and Air Cells mounted on top. The front end is now solid, works great up with the Ohlins on the rear. The triple clamp fit perfect under the fairing and BMW bearings slid right on to the stem. Excellent work on the clamp R-dubb!!!

Bikes looking really good. Wouldnt mind a few more details on your mods. With the forks, how much travel have they got. Ive been choosing between using YZF 250 USD forks and DRZ400 conventionals. With the DRZ forks, because of the lack of underhang below the axle , the outer forklegs are longer above the axle meaning that if I kept the same travel as stock (220mm) the front end would sit higher than stock. Unless I got Gull wing clamps like the stock DRZ ones. With the USD,s this isnt a problem although for the same given amount of travel as the stock forks they are an inch longer.
The tanks on the forks, are they Race Tech ones. ?
Cheers Phil

Thanks Phil. I will try to provide you with the specifics from memory, been working on this for a while now. I have a corrupt drive on the computer where the details on stored on. It is at the shop trying to recover the drive now.

The forks are from a 1998 380 EXC KTM. Also, the wheel and brake are from that era. I had a custom brake line made up and kept the BMW lever. Both were 10mm banjo fittings, made it easy.

There were a couple of posts on advrider with specs on the Paralever front end dimensions. It had overall length of unweighted fork and with the proper sag from top of fork to axle center. It also had fork angles. I used this information, where my old fork actually sat in its sag, and where it would sit with the new sag 1.25” (recommend from the builder) to try to maintain original height and angles. I figured out the length of the BMW set up from the bottom of the top triple clamp to the center of the axle. Then I added the additional thickness of the new clamps, accounted for the additional sag and came up with an overall measurement of 34.5”. The builder had to cut down the internal spacers 1.5” from stock. Next he took the BMW specified load rating max and min, my weight, gear weight, and passenger weight. Also the type and spring range of rear shock. He had to have custom springs wound and had to increase shim stacks to accommodate the wide range. He finally recommended the Air Cells which are the tanks on top. These allow for the adjusting the pre load due to the wide range of weight the bike has on it. I weight 150lbs and will ride two up with full camping gear. Just did that with the new set up, 700 miles, it works superbly! PM me if you want more info.

Thanks. I'm looking at getting a set of clamps from Gletter as they seem to be the only ones commercially producing them. I used to have a set of USD's on my GS with clamps I had made locally but in a moment of madness I sold the front end !! It's proving to costly to have another set made here and I really want a "plug and play" solution
Are you able to pump air into the canisters. In the Racetech Blurb they say they are very good for absorbing square edge bumps

A friend of mine is a master machinist and their shop has capacity to make just about anything. They have all the latest equipment and they even anodize and do other hardcoats in-house. Business is slow, so they would want a small profit, but what I've discussed with him so far seems very reasonable.

If original designer doesn't care, I'm interested in having a batch of these made. Would there be interest?
