We're about to leave (imminently, in fact, as soon as I hit 'submit new thread', and only about six or seven hours later than we originally intended :eek1) on an Eastern North American tour starting in Atlanta, looping up through Michigan and over the top of the Great Lakes, and down the other side through Toronto and other parts yet to be determined, with some time spent at Niagara Falls.

Our intention is to travel on the cheap, enjoy the local sights and color, and perhaps even meet some fellow ADV rider types along the way. If anyone would like to volunteer a night's worth of floor space, we certainly wouldn't turn it down :D

Tonight we will stop in the tiny town of Lawrenceville in southeastern Illinois, and if possible we'll post pictures then of our first day. If not, we may do it the following night, which we hope will be spent on the Canadian side in Sault Ste Marie.

No offense meant, but have you checked the weather for the North side of the Great Lakes? Some places will have temperatures in the -12C area and possible heavy snow fall over the next week!

If you're travelling on the cheap, avoid Toronto... be sure you've got your heated vest with you as it's still kinda cold here...

and let's have updates to this ride report :lurk

Yep you ride in it, I do, Paul Mondor does...

I'm a bit confused - starting in Atlanta, and they're talking about being in Sault Ste Marie already?

    Where are they now?

Sounds like quite the ride though!

posting from cellphone from cup o joe in downtown columbus ohio, having decided not to take the northern rte around the great lakes. wx would have been doable for us probably today and tomorrow based on the forecasts weve seen, but if we were delayed a day enroute it seemed we might have a tough ride back south as colder wx moves in! so when we left lawrenceville il this am we headed east thru indianapolis and to columbus. we will stop this evening just short of buffalo, stay the night, and spend tomorrow in niagara falls. we are taking many photos, but no ability to post them yet. the ride thus far has been beautiful although we hit some storms last night coming thru ky into s illinois. will update later as we are able :)

Thanks zzr_ron for the weather report!

we are now cozy and warm in Niagara. The weather is perfect! and I am with the perfect person in a most perfect location.

    The drive was spectacular.

For the gear heads out thereour average speed over the last approximatly 650 miles was 71.7 mph. Our average MPG was 42.2

    pictures will soon follow

I'd think it's obvious given we are reporting only one mileage number :D For us it's about the trip.

We are here in lovely Niagra Falls still tonight, doing a little laundry in preparation for an early AM departure to the south. We have decided to go for Washington DC by tomorrow night, and spend Thursday at the Air & Space Museum, as aviation is near and dear for both of us.

So you only dip your toes into Canada, and then head south again?

    :(:

Then again, the weather here hasn't been too hospitable.

    Have a safe trip!

We're toe-dipping, although we'd love to spend more time here. We are being chased by weather a bit, and by commitments back home a bit too... sometimes work interferes with our social lives :lol3 We would like to come back north again in the summer and make the Newfoundland / Nova Scotia loop.

Haven't been to NFLD, but I have been to Nova Scotia's and that's lovely country too.

At least the Falls was a good place to spend a little time before the wx and that boss/work thing tugged at your chain. :deal

Be safe & stay warm! :thumb

Humm, just sitting here at Jacks bar in Niagara falls sipping some Makers Mark with my girl listening to a real hot Canadian band, the Mad Hatters, with a nice Cuban cigar ready to be deployed. Life is indeed good!
