It will add some miles but you can cross in Dubuque.

Or at Prairie Du Chein/Marquette. I ride up to the overlook at Pike's Peak In Iowa (same Pike, different Peak) is always nice, too.

You could do that but you would be backtracking on both sides of the river. If you go down to Dubuque and cross there it will be the shorter of the detours.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll be mapping out the specific route this week.

Right now there are three of us definitely going with another two riders still undecided but interested.

One of the guys who is going wants to know if this ride can be done safely two-up. Any thoughts?

Yes it can be done 2 up with out any problem there are ways to get around the level B's if you don't want to try them. If it hasn't rained then the level B's shouldn't be that much of a problem and they aren't very long. If you look through the ride report you will see a pic's of the worst level B.

Where?

This ride sounds interesting. How does one go about finding the route? I have other plans that weekend but would like to hit it later in May.

So far we've got...

Doug (and possibly his wife as a passenger) from the Enduraid board
AlexYZF from Chicago
c-zulu (Ted) from north shore Minnesota
restorationwerks (Stephen) if he spring himself from work

Right now the plan is to drive down to Prairie Du Chien, WI next Thursday evening and start riding first thing Friday.

I'm going take a look at camping to see what sites are open this time of year on the route.

If camping options are limited or we encounter really crummy weather, I'm also going to try to plot a few motels within striking distance of the route.

BTW: Did the group who rode this route last year just base camp near Prairie Du Chien and do day rides? Or did you all camp along the route as you found decent sites?

All suggestions welcome....

We camped at Yellow river then we road out from there. My clutch cable broke so I had to cut it short. Some did the hole ride Saturday. How ever if you wanted to spilt it in to 2 days it would be very easy. Camp or stay in the Prairie du Chien aera then ride south and when you get back to Bridgeport then cut back to Prairie. You can pick the route back there the next day and ride the North loop. Just a sugestion.

Great suggestion, thanks.

Plan is all set--presently four riders. If anyone else wants to join in just PM me.

Thursday night April 26: set up camp at Yellow River State Forest (Iowa) - Big Paint Campground site #56 (reserved for 3 days).
Friday April 27: ride the northern loop of the route (about 140 miles).
Saturday April 28: ride the southern loop (about about 125 miles).
Sunday April 29: break camp and return home to Twin Cities.

I may be able to join you guys for a part of the ride, not sure yet, but maybe.
