Oz - Condo 750 Cross Country rallye

About 6 Oz Advriders took on the Condo 750
http://www.condo750.com.au/

A 2 day cross country rally like a baby Dakar / Oz Safari, we'd also organised a gettogether for Advriders to support the racers and have a gettogether. it was an excellent weekend and Im sure there will be many stories and photos added to this report as the days go bye.

About 8 of us met up and headed west from Sydney over the mountains to hit the dirt roads to Condobolin

A few dramas on the way, my visor broke, johnC dropped his transalp and James had 2 puntures on the Ulysses

I still am bummed this guy didn't win. He was the most stylish rider there IMO and was on it every where. Guess he got lost

My race highlights - (or if it can go wrong it will in the race not when testing)

Friday

Went for a ride to calibrate the trip computer, and one of the float bowl screws came out.

Saturday

1st selective

Camalbak that velcro's into jacket comes loose and is only held on by the drink cord.

I fix it.

It comes loose again 200m later.

I jam it in behind the fairing.

It (wisely ) jumped ship, but was later returned by the sweep vehicle dudes.

KTMMatt Bash plate comes off (someone didn't use locktite) and goes under the back wheel at high speed . ( no damage to it, they're solid )

I get arm pump bolting it back on , and notice its loosing oil from somwhere

Finish selective

Service crew fix oil leak - a breather had blown off

Selective 2

Something hits my boot.

I look down at the bashplate that is now side ways as it only has 1 bolt holding it on

I fix it.

Come across Spock and his dead bike. It died when he tried to ride through a swamp . I was there and saw the swamp, but I dunno how a swamp forms in a 6 year drought.

Get to the end where pit crew locktight's the bash plate on and does it up good and proper.

3rd selective

I am happy with my navigating so decide to up my pace (from crawling to walking... )

Have a blast.

Get to the finish and I've lost my time card. Get a big time penalty and have to start day 2 last for that

4th selective

have a good, fun ride. Pass some riders. Good for whats left of my selfestem that is

Day 2

1st and 2nd selective

Have a blast, pass a few riders.

3rd selective

Catch a guy in heavy dust. evantually the wind is blowing the right way so I can get up to him safely. follow him around a big bulldust section, over some logs where the bike "high centres" on a log.

get it free qiuckly, have the shits so decide to catch and get by the rider in front asap. I decide to out brake him into a sharp, deep bulldust corner.

I fall over . below is a pic of the aftermath of my 640 adv going down in the bullldust, from one of the race photog's.

The track gets tighter, and more deep bulldust corners. I keep trying to catch and pass the guy in front but just end up exhausted from picking the bike up, so decide to take it easier so I don't fall any more and get the finish of the section, where the lunch break is.

Selective 4

Starts off with some tight deep bulldust stuff so I take conservative, crash free aproach too.

After that its more open tracks around farm paddocks and plowed up paddocks, Which are perfect for the 640 and me so I catch and pass a few riders, miss 2 turns, but realize my mistakes within a few 100m.

Get to the end and get told that We cannot start the last section due to fading light. Had the shits (with myself) because if I didn't loose my time card I would have started further up the order and would have been able to start it.

But its all good, I just get another time penalty, not a DNF.

So I ride back to condo. Just as I take my protective gear off, a Mr Whippy icecream Van pulls up outside my tent , so I have my first sugar hit in weeks .

Then go to the presentation, sleep, wake up, pack up and sleep most of the way home.

A huge thank you to all the ADV riders that helped out (there was that many I've forgotten some of the names), especially my Crew Cheif - ATGreg, who was there all weekend long.
