Appologies for the missunderstood atempt at humour, you win.

darke peak - another long weekend

not really worth a ride report, but more of a tease for the locals and anyone else who might be 'just' passing through.

I gotta mate who hangs around the place a bit and sometimes he lets ani and I hang around too.

anyway this time I took me mate 'boog' up with his clapped out "yamaha" 1982 XT 250.

cause its allways good to ride with someone else when exploring around new tracks.

this is part of Darke Peak Range, still aint got a photo of the whole lot.

the range is surrounded by cropping land and covered in low scrub, there is a track that goes along the top for most of the way.

(1) at the southern end is the water tanks for the town with a lookout and the start of the track north over the top of the range.

(2) is the "t" junction that comes back down the range and exits near the back of the silo's (big white things).
this is the only bit I have done, I forgot to take water and the camera............. and chickened out....
the locals say that the first section is only 4 out of 10......... but the next section is 9 out of 10.

(3) the track goes along the top of the range, lots of loose rock and narrow track with 400 metre plus drop off''s.
the exit is just north of the "quarry" the clearing below the third lump.

this is the escarpment at the back of the range, the highest point is nearly 500 metres and you can spit over the edge as you ride along the track.............

also around the back is explorer "Darkes" grave, speared by the locals.

probably didn't pay his bar tab...................

typical gravel roads around these parts - this is the 'dog fence road' heading towards Lock.

now we head off to Caralue Bluff, the highest point on eyre peninsula.

after a bit of a look up a side track, we find this up around the back.......................

you can see the fish tail track of the XT 250, but the KLackeR only made it about 200 metres up the track.

I just couldn't get enough speed up and keep her heading in a straight line.............

the sand was very very very fine.....

I needed a drink and we had a party to go to............ and next time I will take the frigg'in Landrover.

here is another photo of Caralue Bluff, on top is a radio/telstra mast, memorial and lookout.

that photo was taken from Carappee Hill................

Carappee Hill is a few km's east of Darke Peak

on the eastern side is a shack you can camp in for free............

just bring a gas bottle if you want a hot shower or want to use the stove.............
the "long drop" out the back only needs paper.............and fly spray.

not on the tourist map yet and the locals are friendly.

plenty to see and do,

Darke Peak only has a Pub, no fuel is available...... but did I mention there is a pub.

the "chic magnet"

cheers matty
