The new story that we (alikerimbey and I), are pointing to is about an upcoming race on April 28th and 29th at the World Enduro Championship (wherever it is). That is what I was referring to in my post. I thought that anybody that was planning to go to this event could get a glimpse of the bike first hand.

I know the bike has been around the web for a few weeks, hence this whole thread. Duh! We were just pointing you to NEW news.

I'm not trying to get this kicked to JM, but stating something as though it is a fact doesn't make it a fact, and then following up by stating "it's a fact" and "also a fact" does not bootstrap the aforementioned opinions into the status of fact.

We're all entitled to our own opinions, but we are NOT entitled to our own set of facts. I'm not arguing the underlying point. Rather, I am helping you to avoid such rhetorical errors in the future. You're welcome.

Take pics, and come back with an "aural" report too.

That would be great if BMW shows up and you could go take pictures.

And right before that race in Canada is the WEC in NY somewhere. So we should be seeing the BMW 450 racing in North America at least twice, but I think there will be another event as well where they will show up and compete.

World Enduro is in Hancock NY
http://www.usgpenduro.com/

An awesome event to spectate, tons of good dual sporting and riding to do up there and the Hancock Quarry Run is two weeks after. That is a must ride event.

I got to ride the 650x for an entire day in the sand (about 150 miles) last weekend and that bike is sweet! BMW has built a dual-sport that actually feels like a dirt bike. I had no problem lifting the front wheel up, to fourth gear. The only things I didn't like were the grips and the seat. I would race it in an enduro, it handled fine in the tight NJ single track and firecuts but the gearing felt a little tall in the tight stuff. I would switch out to a smaller cs sprocket, cut the bars, new grips, bark busters and add grab handles to the rear. I heard some guys complaining about the air bag shock but my bike stracked straight in the whoops all day and at race speed. The bike has plenty of pull too, can easily cruise at highway speeds. I guess it tops out around 115 or so. The motor feels a lot like my f650 just zippier.

I would/am definately consider getting a 650x but now this 450 is on the horizon I may wait. Another street legal 450 would be a great addition to the us enduro market, we need more street legal race bikes.

Personal best was 97 mph indicated down hill with a slight head wind

So I think realistically the stock bike fully broken in with a 150lb rider might do a true 95 mph or so, but doubt it will pull over 100 without a new exhaust and power commander.

According to the bmw's speedo it does go over 100 and according to the gps it doesn't but comes damn close, it had some room left..

I weigh about 230 with riding gear.

Whatever the top speed it is better than the current LC4 in the sand which just sinks. How did you luck out and get a day on the bike?

If the new 450 is made street legal for our market it will be as encumbered as the current EXCs from KTM. I hope aftermarket (jetting, etc.) will be as quick to market as was the case with the new '07 EXCs.
