This is probably old news, but I just noticed it today. The radiator has a KTM (and BMW) logo on it!

Practice session on the 450 this weekend where I had my last race. I'll be testing out how I like the 13/48 gearing. My initial impression on riding to work this AM was that it's too short of gearing, but then again that was riding on the road.
On the upside, I think on the trails it should keep me more in 3rd gear, with the occasional click down into 2nd for a slower more technical section. My hope is that 3rd will be broad enough (and the bike will have the tq) to pull me from a relatively low rpm to however fast I need to go. But we'll see. Part of me is thinking I'll be swapping back to the 14/48 as the bike has the power to do it (just need more commitment to speed on my end )Far too anxious to ride

I kind of like the 13/48 so far. I haven't been on the road with it though. I like the fact that I can plod along, and no matter what the RPM in 2nd gear, I can lift the front. I'm too slow for 3rd.

Actually there is a strap on the BMW sport muffler. Not the other POS they fit to the bike.
Unless you poor buggers in the USofA get deprived by BMW USA.

![]() I've been wanting to take a photo of this and post it up for quite some time now.... Now I don't have to I guess! Anyway, this should be posted in Orange Crush.... They're heads would explode seeing this. BMW and KTM have a very good relationship of late. Not only did BMW use KTM for certain parts for the G450X, but the new R1200GS's have a WP rear shock on them.

I knew it would only take a matter of moments before the orange flies seeked out my post! Actually BMW designed the rad and KTM simply manufactured it. Don't get your hopes up.

Different KTM,.......sort of. Kind of like going to a Honda automobile dealership asking for parts for your generator or motorcycle,.different division/company. KTM has been making radiators for many companies for a very long time and there have been KTM radiators on BMW's for many years before the G450X. KTM has the motorcycle company, then the radiator/hard parts OEM supplier and also a automotive production facility that makes various cars, mainly for Mercedes and also produced the KTM Xbow I believe.

Interesting. This is my first BMW with a radiator, so I'd never seen it before!

2nd gear to 3rd gear
Anyone else notice any issue with the bike not wanting to shift from 2nd to 3rd easily. It seems to happen if I have been in the woods for awhile and then pop onto a faster section. It will shift but it seems to take a bit more force than normal. It is only from 2nd to 3rd, the rest of the shifts are fine.

If you've owned an oil head boxer you've probably had an oil cooler made by KTM too.

I got to do some more testing this weekend. Went and rode at the same place I was at for my last race. The 13/48 combo was much easier to ride there. Couple quick videos. First one, I honestly am not sure how I went down. I was doing about 15-20 going to go lean the bike over into the upcoming turn. I guess a tad too much front brake and just tucked the front. Such is life, but I did ring my bell a little bit. And my bars were severely tweaked
![]() Next one was a quick hill climb. My buddy riding with me described it as "a damn wall". Unfortunately the videos never do things like this justice. It wasn't bad to do though. Just keep the bike pegged in 2nd and some fanagaling towards the end I can't wait to feel this bike with a new tire. My rear is pretty clapped out at this point. Andrew

Stagehand,
Thanks! Main thing was committing to letting that rear tire just hook up on the face of the thing. Brommer, Looking forward to seeing more pics. Looks like a seriously fun event. Seeing as my rear tire is a bit....worn out, I decided to get some new rear tire ![]() ![]() Profile should round out nicely: ![]() Andrew EDIT: Just got to remembering about my ride on Saturday. My buddy hopped on the bike for a bit while I zipped around on his little KX100 (oh goodness the fun to be had on that thing. lol). He said exactly what I was thinking about the BMW. The seat is dang slippery. Anyone just straight up cover the seat with something? I know 3M super 77 bonds like mad, but I hate to ruin the seat. Any ideas?
