Looks like they have tried hard to keep all the weight very low.Looking at the seat there appears to be no tank and the forward lean angle on the motor.

Max, yes that the idea. Looks like BMW have not followed KTM's silly PDS with the offcenter shock mounts.

What's silly about the offcenter PDS setup of KTM?

You think Buell would run a prototype in a race of the german championship and just write BMW in the entry form? Quite stealthy.

Wicked

Ok, a light weight enduro bi-cilynder is the BIKE most of us are looking for
...but.......... the bike is based on an aprilia,
..so.............
Why shouldn´t we buy aprilia directly?
What improvements BMW offers to potential buyer in its re-styled aprilia???

Anyway, the question is.......

is this the bike that BMW official team could use in DAKAR?, i am asking this becuse current dakar regulations authorise bi-cylinder bikes below 450cc.

I´ll keep an eye on this bike, could be a good replacement for my KTM525

Well believe it or not, but Gottfried Michels of Pami started tuning SR and XT's and then came the Priller Pegaso Engin with its 5 valve head, and he went modern, but that enging dropped out every other race so he took hold of the old Yam again... And then came the BMW modified engine, and it was rock solid, tunable to 75hp, and eventually he got the Job to build the engines for the Dakar "650's"

Visiting Pami

That's F 'n cool. If I was going to build a dirt bike, thats what I would do.

In all honesty, I've always wondered when someone would do it, and why it was take'n so long.

BMW 450 Frame is absolutely different than Aprilia XRV´s combined deltabox-multitubular frame.

Also i´ve been comparing both engines an there are many differences.

That countersprocket design is yet more evidence that the people who design these things never have to work on them.

Good luck changing the output shaft oil seal without dropping the engine AND swingarm.
